PART I - ABOUT THE DECK

ABOUT THE DECK “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom” - Aristotle This deck was created with one thing in mind: To facilitate guidance in self-discovery, self-reflection and self-acceptance, to help one understand their inner self and thus, help build a better life. Thus it was called: Inner Dimensions. The exploration of the inner self. Inner Dimensions Tarot was created for multiple reasons, not only did I want to test my knowledge of the Tarot, but also my creative abilities in designing these. This project also served as my exam masterpiece when I studied Media Design, for which I made the initial Major Arcana. Since graduation however, this deck has evolved a lot and changes to the initial majors have also been made. BREAKING TRADITION This isn’t a traditional deck. Myself, and many people in my community, don’t really connect well with the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith style of symbolism, so I chose to find my own style in doing that. For this reason some cards may surprise you if you are already familiar with Tarot. I have changed names and such of the cards as well, to support both my style and the focus of this particular deck and I hope these changes will work just as well for you. As a non-binary person, it was important to me to remove gender from the cards where it wasn’t serving a purpose (at least not in my opinion), as I wanted the reader to be able to see themselves in the cards that featured people. Apart from gender I also tried to remove the age aspect in the court cards, as age is not necesarily a defining factor in how skilled one is at something. Because of this, I focused it on the various stages of mastery, instead of a court hierarchy. By uncovering our inner truths, we uncover our inner power and with this power we are able to (re)shape our own reality.

PART I - HOW TO USE

HOW TO USE THE DECK Not everyone is familiar with Tarot, and therefore I will briefly mention how you could use this deck. If you are seriously interested in learning more about Tarot you can check out my blog asheattitude.wordpress.com. First off, there’s no right or wrong way to shuffle or pull a card. My primary advice, don’t think about it too much. A card can be pulled from the top, centre or bottom of the stack, or by being fanned out, depending on your preference. Decide for yourself if you want to read with reversed meanings or not. These are both included in the guide, but act as a guideline, trust your instinct while reading them. STEP BY STEP 1. Get your deck and remove distractions. Decide what type of reading you want to do. You can read a single card or a spread, there are spreads included further on. Also consider what you want guidance on. 2.A If you use a spread with a Source card (the spreads in this guide use this method) then take the Major Arcana of the deck first. Shuffle this part and take one out. After you pulled one card, place it in the appropriate position. Put all the cards together again and shuffle well. Then pull the remaining cards according to the spread. Place them front facing up so you see what card it is. 2.B If you don’t use a spread with a Source card then just shuffle the deck well and pull one or several according to the type of reading you decided on in the first step. Place them front facing up. 3. Write down or acknowledge your first feeling from the cards. Then write down the positions and what they represent with the meanings of the cards below them. Include your own personal associations as well if you have any. Conclude your final interpretation from everything you gathered. *You can find the meanings further in this guide.

PART I - SPREADS SPREADS One of the most common ways to use a Tarot deck is by utilizing spreads. These spreads are often themed to work for a specific purpose, like for example a relationship spread, but can also simply add a better structure to your reading according to your needs. I make a lot of spreads for myself, often simply in the moment according to what is prompting me to read. For this guide I thought to include a simple Past Present Future spread, as well as 2 deck specific spreads, build around the theme of this deck. These spreads mention a Source card which indicates the use of a focus card. This can be a Major Arcana or court card (if about a person), or perhaps a stalker card. This card marks what everything relates to, like a theme.

INNER DIMENSIONS SPREAD This spread focuses on how the Source card can help you on the journey or on how to embody the energy of the card as being archetypal energy. With every journey comes its roadblocks, opportunities and we may not be sure what to expect from walking the journey. The horizontal cards in many of my spreads are supposed to be read both upright & reversed. I have included the meanings for both ways in my card descriptions for you to be able to do so as well. Horizontal cards represent the duality we find in each card. 0 Source Pick a specific card or draw a card to symbolise the focus. 1 Roadblock What is currently holding you back or not revealing itself to you. 2 Opportunity What opportunity will present itself to work with the source. 3 insight The insight you may receive when facing these roadblocks and when using these opportunities.

A mobile holds up the different phases of the moon, hanging from threads. In reality the shape of the Moon itself doesn’t change during these phases, it is merely an illusion based on how it is illuminated. The odd tilt of the mobile, which seemingly hold a pool of water, adds to the illusionary, dreamlike energy of the Moon. Holding up a mirror, you see a reflection of the self. While the reflection is purely objective in and of itself, our minds will distort the image according to our own opinion, judgement. There are 2 kinds of inner voices. The ego that will either lift us up or push us down, and the intuitive self, helping you interact in accordance to your true self. When you listen to your intuitive self you’ll see everything isn’t as black and white as things may have appeared to be. The theme of this card is:

The forest is home to many plants and creatures, and through the branches and leaves of the trees, we can catch glimpses of sunlight beaming down. Creatures may bask in the sunlight, restore their energy and celebrate its sight. On the hand, the warmth of the sun can also make the land dry making it easier for fires to catch and spread. V OF FIRE Competition into collaboration The journey has reached its first big challenge, Fire asks you to calm down and direct your energy where it is actually needed. As the fire starts to spread throughout the forest it consumes whatever it can. But as the fire can be destructive to the forest, the forest can also work in collaboration with the fire, as it allows for more space to grow and to help release seeds onto the soil. A scary yet surprisingly harmonic interaction. Look at what’s around you. Instead of being distracted and frustrated, listen. Don’t fight the fire, its not a competition. Work with it. MINOR ARCANA - FIRE

VII OF FIRE Conflict with self They journey has brought you to a point of introspection, Fire beckons you to stand your ground for what is best for you. While comets can be considered a bad omen, the meteors are an inspiring sight to see. Both comets and meteors are associated with approaching conflict and a sort of rebirth, internal insight received when we’ve faced certain challenges. Is this internal conflict based on realism or fear? Knowing what is right for us will help us stand our ground and shine bright and inspiring like the meteor shower adorning the night sky. Upright : Perseverance, Defensive, Maintaining control Reversed : Give up, Destroyed confidence, Overwhelmed The theme of number VII:

MINOR ARCANA - FIRE

VIII OF FIRE Quick action & energy As you make the final adaptations on the direction of your journey, Fire reminds you not to lose control and stray from the path. The volcano is a source of raw power, one that has the ability to force it’s surroundings to adapt to it’s will. We can only imagine the high amount of energy that appears during an eruption, how raw that power is, how quickly things can go from one thing to another. It knows its purpose, and it tries to maintain its focus on this goal.
