Jhansi, situated on the rocky plateau, is well known after the Maratha Queen Rani Lakshmi Bai. Jhansi is a historical place located in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh. Jhansi lies between Pahunj and


Betwa River and it is regarded as the gateway of Bundelkhand. Well, it is a perfect place for history lovers. Janshi means the “blurred shadows” - this name was derived from the shadows of tall forts built by the Rajput. Jhansi lying at an altitude of 284 meters above the sea level was known as ‘Balwant Nagar’ during its early days. It was under Chandela dynasty and gained prominence during that time of history. Jhansi is a booming tourist spot and the place is mostly preferred by the visitors from Mumbai and Delhi.

Jhansi Fort: A historic site, Jhansi fort has a rich architecture. A light and sound show provides very good details of history. Surrounded by few temples it is situated on one of the highest points of Jhansi. Raja Bir Singh Deo built this fort in the year 1613.

Rani Mahal: This royal palace was the house of Rani Lakshmi Bai. Rani Mahal will take you back to the 9th and 10th century Chandela


period. The palace is a delight to the visitor’s historic mind.

UP Government Museum: it exhibits the history, the weapons, dresses, statues and the photographs of Chandela dynasty and Gupta period can be seen here.


Maharaja Gangadhar Rao ki Chhatri: Located in the heart of Bundelkhand, it is one of the important monuments of Jhansi. Gangadhar Rao was the husband of Rani Lakshmi Bai. During the 19th century when Gangadhar Rao was the Maharaji, this monument was established.

Barua Sagar: this lake is quite a good escape from history. Not much clean but it is a popular spot to visit. Barua Sagar fort is situated in the vicinity of this lake.
