OUTDOOR SIGNAGE DESIGN
We chose Shimla because it is one of the biggest Tourist Spots in India and many people visit Shimla especially during summer season. Since shimla attracts a lot of tourists around the year we thought of enhancing the experience by making environmental graphics for people to interact. This would be a great opportunity to be worked upon.
The target audience for this assignment would be mainly tourists. The signages are for both indian as well as foreign tourists. Even though the signage has no speciďŹ c age group, we made the signages bigger and bolder for older people to view as well as the for people travelling in a vehicle.
The installation is a hand coming out of the ground to protect the tree. Since shimla is the most polluted hill station in India we decided as a group that we wanted to create awareness for this and Highlight that even a hill station like shimla can be a beautiful place while being a boon on nature and protecting it.
These signages are designed for all the people navigating Shimla, both on foot and by cars. Looking at the location, for pedestrians, we provided information and history about speciďŹ c places and in other places with potential risks, we added warning signs. Considering the theme of shimla with the mountainous regions and the green forests, we designed the signages accordingly. The Signages are green in color with white text for easy readability from large distances. The theme also helps create a good feeling about the region
Way ďŹ nding signages: ACP for the main signage and Metal for the support Pole. Installation: The installation itself is carved out of boulders & the signage next to it uses aluminium/metal and ACP. A non corrosive and rigid metal as well as the ACP will be preffered for the signages to last long. The boulder is used to make the installation, organic as well as nature friendly material.
