BENEFITS

PROGRAMS American University of Antigua College of Medicine (AUA), a member of the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH), has formed a unique partnership with Florida International University in order to create two innovative programs designed to provide a U.S. medical education in all the ways that matter:

Students of both AUA–FIU programs can look forward to:

G L O B A L H E A LT H Why Global Health? How can we understand it today? The purpose of the Global Health Track is to support and guide students in developing expertise in global health issues with the goal of subsequent career involvement in patient care, service, policy making, research and education at a global level. Students attending the Global Health Track will be introduced to the study of community and public health, primary care, epidemiology, and treatment of communicable and non-communicable diseases on a global basis.

ABOUT AUA American University of Antigua College of Medicine (AUA) is an accredited international medical school dedicated to providing an academic experience of the highest quality. Via a holistic admissions approach, AUA selects students with the potential for medical school success and provides them with the resources they need to obtain highly competitive residencies and move on to successful careers in medicine.

But what makes pursuing an education and career specifically in global medicine so relevant at this particular moment? In a globalized world, the urgency to give physicians, especially those in primary care, a wider understanding of the socioeconomic forces that shape their practice has never been greater. As borders mean less and less and the global physician shortage continues to intensify, the need for doctors who are more informed and better-prepared to treat diverse populations in a global setting is essential.

Upon passing necessary licensure exams, AUA graduates are eligible to practice medicine in all 50 U.S. states. AUA graduates who otherwise meet the qualifications for licensure in countries outside the United States, such as India, Canada, Antigua, or the United Kingdom, may be licensed in those countries.
