Park & Lake Reminders Park & Lake Reminders
General
All residents (ages 12+) must bring their membership card each time they wish to access the facility
No child under 12 is permitted in the park/facility without adult supervision.
No animals of any type are permitted in the park.
No glass, smoking, vaping, or alcohol is permitted in the park.
No bicycles, scooters, rollerblades, skateboards, etc are permitted in the park
Open fires are not permitted. Only charcoal briquettes may be used in the barbeques.
Residents and guests must not use foul language in the park.
Rambunctious/unsafe behaviour will not be tolerated.
Guests
Residents assume full responsibility for their guest' actions. Residents must be present at all times while their guests use the facility
Adult residents may bring up to five (5) guests per household. Youth residents (aged 12-15) may bring up to two (2) guests per household (with signed parental consent). All guests must be signed in before entering the facility.
For more than five (5) guests, a Gate +8 List must be submitted to Auburn House at least 28 hours prior to your event for approval. These lists are accepted on a first come, first served basis. The ABRA accepts a maximum of 10 Gate +8 lists Mon-Thurs, and 5 Gate +8 Lists Fri-Sun (and all stat/civic holidays).
Park Guest Lists (up to 25 people) are only available with Picnic Shelter bookings.
The ABRA has the right to decline any large group
The maximum number of guests with a Gate +8 list is 8 (including children and mobile infants)
Gate +8 lists are available on AuburnBayRA.ca and at Auburn House.
Before You Go
Teach children to call for help loud and clear if they are in trouble
Kids: check with a responsible adult before heading onto, or near, the ice.
Check that the ice is smooth and at least 10 cm (4 in) thick.
Check with local authorities for more information on ice thickness.*
Understand that ice is often unpredictable. In spring weather, thick is is not necessarily safe. During spring melt, impurities in the ice melt quickly, creating weak spots.
Ice seldom freezes or thaws at an equal rate
If in doubt, don't go out!
On the Ice
Obey all signs posted on, or near, ice
Ensure that children only play on, or near, ice while a responsible adult supervises
Use the buddy system - never walk on ice alone.
Self Rescue Steps
Float on your stomach, facing the shore
If You Hear a Crack
Lay down and crawl on the ice
Crawl or roll back to land
Helping Others
Phone 9-1-1, then call out the self-rescue steps
Push or throw something (e g long stick, rope, floating aid) that the victim can use to get out of the water and float on.
Reach forward onto the ice - do not push down on it.
Kick your legs to slowly push your torso onto the ice.
Crawl away from the hole.
Get medical help immediately. If you can't climb onto the ice, float in the water and call for help loud and clear.
WAll users must act in a safe & responsible manner.
Members and guests will enter and use the outdoor amenities at their own risk.
The ABRA staff will evict any user displaying unacceptable behavior of any kind
General courtesy is expected of all individuals using any skating or tobogganing area in the park
No dogs are permitted on the lake
Do not litter while using ABRA amenities.
Wood burning fire pits are NOT permitted on ABRA property (including the lake and lake access ways).
Portable propane fit pits are permitted on ABRA property but must be supervised at all times Propane fire pits MUST be removed daily and cannot be left out overnight
Residents MUST stay with their guests while using ABRA amenities.
The ABRA does not provide supervision for toboggan hill use.
Tobogganing is permitted in designated areas only Helmets are highly recommended for anyone using the toboggan hill
Parental supervision is advised.
When tobogganing: make sure the route is clear before proceeding, always face forward, clear the path quickly after stopping, avoid excessive speeding and DO NOT alter the hill.
Please stand outside the riding area to prevent collisions
Be courteous and do not walk up the middle of the hill
Skating
Skating is only permitted when ABRA determines it’s safe to do so by removing the Thin Ice signage and the Green Flags are up.
The ABRA does not provide supervision for rink use.
Helmets are highly recommended for anyone who is skating.
Nobody is allowed on a skating surface while the Zamboni or other equipment is servicing it
Hockey sticks and pucks are not permitted on the pleasure rink.
ABRA residents and their guests are expected to respect ALL skating surfaces, including ones that are not maintained by ABRA.
No person is permitted on the ice while the Red Flags and Thin Ice signs are up. The only exception is trained ABRA staff who are conducting safety checks
No person shall dispose of any debris, including but not limited to rocks, trash, sticks and ice chunks onto the ice.
Building personal ice surfaces are not permitted until ABRA staff deems the lake is safe and the Green Flag is up and the Thin Ice signs are removed, regardless of the ice depths in your area.
Ice Fishing
Ice fishing is only permitted when ABRA determines it’s safe to do so by removing the Thin Ice signage and the Green Flags are up.
Ice fishing holes must be made by an ice auger and no larger than 8 inches in diameter
Ice fishing holes may not be drilled any closer than 40-45 feet of ANY prepared ice surface, including rinks, lake loop and other cleared surfaces
All holes must be made a minimum of 5-6 feet away from other individuals who are also ice fishing.
Do not make ice fishing holes on the lake skating pathway.
All ice fishing gear MUST be removed daily and cannot be left out overnight
Please fill the hole once you are done fishing This ensures that the hole will freeze over evenly
Cross-Country Skiing
The ABRA does not provide supervision of the cross-country ski trails
Parental supervision is highly recommended
Step off the track to let others pass. Tuck your poles with passing.
If you stop for any reason, please step off the trail.
Yield to skiers coming downhill It’s easier for an uphill skier to step off the trail than it is for a faster skier coming down
Gymnasium Rules
All users must check in at the main office before entering the gymnasium.
All users must act in a safe and responsible manner.
Profanity and/or abusive language is not permitted.
Shoes with non-marking soles only No socked feet, bare feet, flip flops, or sandals
Indoor shoes only Remove outdoor shoes before entering the gymnasium
Shirts must be worn at all times.
No food or drink (except bottled water).
Bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades, scooters, etc. are prohibited.
Soccer and lacrosse are not permitted in the gymnasium.
No outdoor hockey sticks or pucks are permitted
No gym equipment is permitted on the mezzanine
You may need to sign out equipment from the office using your membership card.
Please respect designated drop-in times
Gym use is not supervised - use at your own risk.

Program Cancellation & Withdrawal
The ABRA reserves the right to cancel any programs with insufficient registration Full refunds will be granted, or you may transfer to another program (space permitting)
Requests to withdraw from a program:
Seven (7) or more days prior to the first day of the program will be granted a refund with no penalty.*
Less than seven (7) days prior to the first day of the program will be granted a 50% refund.*
On the program start date to within 48 hours after the first class will be granted a 25% refund (not applicable to one-day programs - no refunds will be granted within 48 hours before the start date of the program).
Refunds will be issued for medical reasons and will be pro-rated at the time of the withdrawal request A doctor's note must be presented Refunds will not be issued for participants who are unable to attend make-up classes

Early Start Badminton (Ages 9 to 14)

Players will learn the fundamentals of badminton, but with a focus on techniques and footwork. Four areas of focus are racket grip, posture, racket swing and footwork Each session will consist of 1 of the 4 areas of focus while engaging in light to moderate cardio exercises Players will be challenged to bring the best out of themselves. This will be very beneficial for players who are looking to join the school badminton team or further advance themselves for those who are already on a team.
Our instructor, Coach Ly, started his badminton journey in junior high, and went on to play for the Mount Royal College Cougars He has won multiple city championships and also competed in the Alberta badminton series. He owes much of his success to his coaches and mentors, and now wants to pay it forward.
Rising Superstars Badminton (Ages 12 to 17)

Petite Pirouettes is a joyful introductory ballet class for children aged 1 5 to 3, where parents join in on the fun! Designed to encourage movement, rhythm, and coordination, this class allows little dancers to explore ballet basics with the comfort and support of a parent or caregiver by their side. Together, you’ll twirl, tiptoe, and enjoy playful exercises that build confidence, coordination, and a love for dance. Guided by our friendly instructors, each session combines music, movement, and bonding time to create a magical experience for both children and adults Step into the world of ballet with us, and make precious memories together!

Snowman Needle Felting Workshop (Ages 7 to 14)

This class is perfect for beginners and experienced felters alike. Under the guidance of a skilled instructor, your child will learn essential needle felting techniques and create a charming snowman to brighten up their winter wonderland. This class is perfect for children of all ages and abilities. Under the guidance ofourexperiencedinstructor,yourchildwilllearnhowtoneedlefeltpiecesfor a unique game tic tac toe game. The game pieces could be clouds and raindrops, different colored hearts, flowers and leaves, or anything else they candreamup!
Allnecessarysupplies,includingneedles,wool,afeltingmat,andatictactoe game board (which doubles as a bag for all the tic tac toe pieces) are provided in the workshop. Your child will leave with their very own handmade tictactoegameandenoughsuppliestocreateafeltedcharm.

For anyone with limited to no skating experience: Come have fun on the ice! Learn the basic skating techniques through fun and age appropriate drills, games, and activities. Parents are encouraged to be on the ice with their child (in skates or shoes). Skates and proper skating helmets required.
Hockey Skills Classes

Learn basic hockey skills and techniques in an enjoyable environment. Through fun and ageappropriate games and activities, participants will learn how to shoot, pass, improve their balance and skating techniques, and become team players. Prior experience on skates is required.

Winter Break Camps
Join us for an exciting Winter Break Day Camp filled with a variety of fun, winter-themed activities! Campers will enjoy designated gymnasium time for active play, creative indoor crafts, and outdoor fun (weather permitting).
