The Tigers have posted 22 shutouts in those 56 games, including 14 straight from 18981926, with Auburn being blanked three times, the last coming in 2003 (USC, 23-0). Auburn’s longest winning streak in season openers is 16 games (1907-22). In the modern era, the Tigers’ longest streak is seven straight which they have accomplished twice, from 197783 and 1985-91. OPENING DAY W’s TIED FOR SECOND IN SEC Auburn’s total of 91 season-opening victories is just one behind Alabama for the best among the 12 Southeastern Conference Schools. The Tigers are tied with Arkansas for second, followed by Georgia with 89 wins in season openers. Ole Miss is next with 86, followed by Tennessee and LSU (84), Kentucky (81), South Carolina and Florida (77), Mississippi State (76) and Vanderbilt (67). NON-CONFERENCE OPENERS Since 1977, Auburn is 24-5 in season openers against non-conference opponents. In 116 years of football at Auburn, the Tigers are 54-15 when opening the season versus non-conference foes. OPENING DAY SUPERLATIVES Season openers have produced several impressive performances by the Tigers, including two SEC records. Bo Jackson’s 290 rushing yards versus SW Louisiana in 1985 and Alexander Wright’s 263 receiving yards in 1989 against Pacific are the best season-opening performances by an SEC player. The Tigers’ 565 rushing yards and 695 yards of total offense against SW Louisiana in the 1985 opener are school single-game records. Chris Todd’s 93-yard TD pass to Terrell Zachery last year vs. Louisiana Tech is the longest pass play in school history. Listed are Auburn’s individual and team season-opening best performances. CHIZIK IN THIRD YEAR Gene Chizik is one of just three head coaches to have won a BCS National Championship with less than five years experience as a head coach at the college or NFL level. After taking Auburn to the BCS title in just his fourth season as a head coach, Chizik joined Bob Stoops (Oklahoma, 2nd year) and Larry Coker (Miami, 1st year) to have accomplished the feat. Stoops led OU to the 2000 BCS Championship, while Coker led Miami to the 2001 title. In two seasons at Auburn, Chizik has compiled a record of 22-5 and 11-5 in SEC play. Chizik became the first Auburn head coach to take the Tigers to a bowl game in his first season at the helm (2009). Chizik has been a part of three perfect teams in the past seven years, 2010 and 2004 with Auburn and 2005 with Texas. AU COACHING TIES TO AGGIES No Auburn coach played or has worked at Utah State, but Tigers’ special teams/tight ends coach Jay Boulware did coach at in-state rival Utah from 2005-06 when current Utah State head coach Gary Andersen served as Utah’s defensive coordinator/assistant head coach. The Utes beat the Aggies in each of Boulware’s years, 31-7 in 2005 and 48-0 in 2006. Curtis Luper coached against Utah State associate head coach/special teams/safeties coach Bill Busch when the two were in the Big 12. Luper coached RB’s (his current position at AU) for Oklahoma State from 2005-08 and faced Busch while he coached at Nebraska in 2006 and 2007. Busch coached safeties and special teams for the Cornhuskers from 2004-07. Luper’s Cowboys beat Nebraska both years, 41-29 in 2006 and 4514 in 2007. NO UTAH TIGERS, ALABAMA AGGIES Auburn does not currently have a player on its roster, nor have the Tigers ever had a letterman from the state of Utah. The Aggies do not have a player from the state of Alabama. TROTTER STARTS AT QB Junior Barrett Trotter will attempt to extend a four-game winning streak by AU QB’s making their first career start when he opens under center against Utah State. Cam Newton (2010 vs. Arkansas State),

2011 Game Notes Chris Todd (2008 vs. Southern Miss), Kodi Burns (2007 vs. New Mexico State) and Blake Field (2005 vs. Western Kentucky) each won their first start at signal caller for Auburn. The last QB to lose his first career start was Brandon Cox against Georgia Tech in 2005. Since 1969, Auburn QB’s are 21-7 in their first start, including being 11-3 in 14 season openers. NO FAMILIAR FACE The 2011 season marks the six straight that Gus Malzahn will have a different starting QB as a collegiate offensive coordinator. In his first two years with Auburn, Malzahn had Chris Todd (2009) & Cam Netwon (2010) start under center. During two seasons at Tulsa, Malzahn had Paul Smith (2007) & David Johnson (2008) calling the signals. In 2006 at Arkansas, Malzahn began the season with Robert Johnson at QB. Despite a lack of continuity, quarterbacks under Malzahn have flourished, particularity in their first start. In their first starts, Malzahn-coached QBs have combined to go 80-for-120 (67 pct.) for 1,190 yards, 11 TDs and 2 INTs and go 4-1. THE 800 CLUB For the first time in Auburn history the Tigers return a pair of rushers who each ran for 800 yards or more the previous season. Junior Onterio McCalebb ran for 810 yards, third-best in 2010, while sophomore Michael Dyer rushed for an AU freshman record (second-most on team) 1,093 yards last season. Auburn has come close to having a pair of 800-yard rushers return the following season, the most recent coming in 2003 when Carnell Williams ran for 745 yards and Ronnie Brown ran for 1,008 yards in 2002. The Tigers nearly turned the feat in 1983 with Bo Jackson and Lionel James. Jackson ran for a then freshman record 829 yards and James rushed for 779 yards in 1982. 1,000 YARD RETURNER Michael Dyer is Auburn’s first returning 1,000-yard rusher since 2006 when RB Kenny Irons returned for his senior season. Irons led the SEC in rushing in 2005 with 1,293 yards and followed that by totaling 893 yards in ‘06. Auburn has not had a rusher total 1,000 yards or more in consecutive seasons since Carnell Williams in 2003-04. Williams ran for 1,307 in 2003 and 1,165 in 2004. Dyer rushed for an AU freshman-record

1,093 yards in 2010. Dyer is the 14th player in AU history to rush for 1,000 yards or more and is in position to become just the fourth Auburn player to post consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons. Auburn’s three previous players are: 1978 James Brooks 1,208 1979 James Brooks 1,314 1994 Stephen Davis 1,263 1995 Stephen Davis 1,068 2003 Carnell Williams 1,307 2004 Carnell Williams 1,165 TIGERS, BADGERS & CORNHUSKERS Auburn is one of two teams in the FBS to have two returning running backs who each rushed for 700 yards or more last season. Wisconsin is the second team as the Badgers return RB’s James White (1,052 yards) and Montee Ball (996 yards) from last season. A third team, Nebraska, also returns two players who rushed for 700 yards or more last season but only one is a running back. Quarterback Taylor Martinez ran for 965 yards and RB Rex Burkhead rushed for 951 yards in 2010. 2011 SENIOR CLASS The Tigers began last season with a program-record 24 seniors, all of which had playing experience or had lettered. Auburn goes into the 2011 season with just 11 seniors who have lettered, which is tied for the third lowest total in the modern era. The 1978 Tigers had the fewest seniors who had lettered with nine. The 1973 team had 10, while the 1981, 2001 and 2011 teams each had 11. Auburn’s 2011 senior class includes: Quindarius Carr, Drew Cole, Jared Cooper, Eltoro Freeman, A.J. Green, Josh Harris, Davis Hooper, Chris Humphries, Brandon Mosley, Ashton Richardson and Neiko Thorpe. THIN ON STARTING EXPERIENCE Of Auburn’s 11 seniors with playing experience only DB Neiko Thorpe, LB Eltoro Freeman and OL Brandon Mosley have started 10 games or more in their career. Thorpe leads the group with 27 starts, while Freeman has 12 starts and Mosley 11 starts. No other senior has started more than three games. In games played, WR Quindarius Carr leads the senior class with 39 games played while Thorpe is just behind at 38 games played. Freeman has played in 22 games for his career.

TIGERS PERFECT TWICE SINCE 2004 Auburn is the only Southeastern Conference team to record two perfect seasons since 2004, going 13-0 in ‘04 and 14-0 in 2010. Since the 2004 season, Auburn has won 39 of its 56 SEC games and 41 of its 58 games against SEC schools, including the 2004 (vs. Tennessee) and 2010 (vs. South Carolina) SEC Championship games. Auburn is 4-0 against Louisiana-Lafayette, 2-0 against Western Kentucky and Arkansas State and has one win North Texas. PRESEASON RANKINGS For the eighth time in the last nine years Auburn is nationally ranked to begin the season. The Tigers are ranked 23rd in the Associated Press poll, and 19th in the USA Today Coaches’ poll. It marks the second straight season under head coach Gene Chizik the Tigers have been ranked in the preseason polls after coming in at No. 22 in the AP and No. 23 in the Coaches’ polls to begin the 2010 season. In the eight prior seasons Auburn has had a preseason ranking, the Tigers have finished the season ranked five times, missing the final polls in 2008 and 2003. RETURNING PLAYMAKERS Last season the Tigers had 27 touchdowns plays covering 30 yards or more (14 rush/13 pass). Of those 27 plays, returners Michael Dyer, Onterio McCalebb, Quindarius Carr and Emory Blake combined for 12 (44 pct.) of those plays. Dyer had five TD runs, averaging 22.0 yards per run, with his last three scoring runs all going over 30 yards (38, 30, 37). McCalebb averaged 30.2 yards per TD run with four runs going for 49 yards or longer. Blake had four of his eight TD catches go for 30 yards or more and averaged 31.6 yards per. Blake was part of the longest play in AU history as he and Cam Newton connected on a 94-yard throw-and-catch vs. ULM. Carr had one TD grab over 30 yards, a 48 yard grab vs. Arkansas State. Carr is averaging 36.7 yards per scoring catch for his career with grabs of 48, 46 & 16. BUILDING OFF SUCCESS A pair of sophomores on the defensive line will look to carryover their success from 2010 into this season. Last season, Corey Lemonier played in every game, starting one, and totaled 17 tackles with 5.0 TFL’s and 2.0 sacks in earning SEC AllFreshman honors. Lemonier was the first AU defensive lineman named to the SEC AllFreshman team since Antoine Carter in 2007. Fellow defensive lineman Nosa Egua looks to build off his freshman campaign. Egua played in every game and started the last 11 consecutive, registering 22 tackles, 7.5 TFL’s and 3.5 sacks.

Auburn has had a pair of “walk-off ” wins under Chizik, both coming last year. The Tigers defeated Oregon in the BCS National Championship Game and Kentucky on the road on field goals as time expired. Auburn halftime rallies under Chizik: Date 11/26/10 9/25/10 9/18/10 9/19/09
