Auburn had three running backs carry the load against the Wolverines with Bo Jackson leading the way with 22 carries for 130 yards. Lionel James ran 18 times for 83 yards and Tommie Agee rushed 16 times for 93 yards. The 67 attempts vs. Michigan was a seasonhigh for Auburn and was the fourth time that season the Tigers had 60 rushing attempts or more in a game (61 vs. Maryland & Tennessee; 60 vs. Kentucky). TIGERS TOUGH IN NAILBITERS Auburn’s 16-13 win over South Carolina kept the Tigers perfect under head coach Gene Chizik in games decided by four points or less. Auburn is now 9-0 in those games. 2011 Auburn Football Game Notes SNAPS MOST SINCE 1990 Auburn’s 92 offensive snaps vs. South Carolina is the most the Tigers have run in a non-overtime game since running 99 plays in a 26-26 tie vs. Tennessee in 1990. Including OT games, the 92 snaps is the most since running 97 plays against Georgia in 1996. That games was the first overtime contest in SEC history and took four OT periods. CLARK NAILS IT Sophomore punter Steven Clark registered a career-best with five punts inside the 20-yard line against South Carolina. Clark pinned the Gamecocks on the 1-yard line, 4-yard line, 11-yard line and the 12-yard line twice and played a key role in holding the Gamecocks to just four offensive snaps in Auburn territory for the game. This season, Clark leads the SEC with 14 punts pinned inside the 20 and is sixth in the league averaging 42.2 yards per punt. 10 STRAIGHT CONFERENCE WINS Auburn has won 10 consecutive conference games and 11 straight vs. SEC opponents. The streak is the fourth longest in school history. It is the longest streak since Auburn won 11 straight SEC games and 12 consecutive against league opponents from Nov. 11, 2003 vs. Alabama to Oct. 15, 2005 vs. Arkansas. The record for consecutive conference wins is 15 from 1956-58. That streak began with a 27-20 win over Mississippi State on Nov. 10, 1956 and ended with a 14-8 win vs. Alabama on Nov. 29, 1958. The 1959 Tigers lost the season opener, a 3-0 set back to Tennessee. The 1993-94 Tigers own the second longest win streak at 14 games. The ‘93 team began the streak on Sept. 2 with a 16-12 win over Ole Miss. That streak ended with a 31-14 win over Arkansas on Oct. 29, 1994. The ‘94 Tigers tied Georgia the following weak, 23-23 and lost the next game, 21-14 to Alabama. TOUGH ROAD AHEAD At current rankings, Auburn will play four consecutive games in the month of October against teams ranked in the top 20 of the Associated Press poll, with three of those contests on the road. The Tigers defeated #10 South Carolina 16-13 on Oct. 1 in Columbia. The Tigers next play at #10 Arkansas (Oct. 8) in Fayetteville, vs. #17 Florida (Oct. 15) and at #1 LSU (Oct. 22). Should the rankings hold, it would be the first time Auburn played four consecutive ranked opponents since 1987 when the Tigers played five straight. Auburn also played five consecutive ranked squads in the 1983 and 1968 seasons. CHIZIK IN THIRD YEAR Gene Chizik is one of just three head coaches to have won a BCS National Championship with less than five years experience as a head coach at the college or NFL level. After taking Auburn to the BCS title in just his fourth season as a head coach, Chizik joined Bob Stoops (Oklahoma, 2nd year) and Larry Coker (Miami, 1st year) to have accomplished the feat. Stoops led OU to the 2000 BCS Championship, while Coker led Miami to the 2001 title.
In two seasons at Auburn, Chizik has compiled a record of 26-6 and 13-5 in SEC play. Chizik became the first Auburn head coach to take the Tigers to a bowl game in his first season at the helm (2009). Chizik has been a part of three perfect teams in the past seven years, 2010 and 2004 with Auburn and 2005 with Texas. TIGERS HOLD LEADS Auburn is 19-2 and has won its last 13 straight when leading at the half under Gene Chizik. Auburn is 3-0 this season when leading at halftime. The Tigers went 9-0 in 2010 when leading at halftime and 7-2 in 2009. Auburn’s only losses came against Kentucky (led 14-7, lost 21-14 at home) and Georgia (led 14-7, lost 31-24 at UGA). LUTZ TIES RECORD Junior Philip Lutzenkirchen’s game-winning touchdown reception against South Carolina moved him into a tie for career TD catches by an Auburn tight end. Lutzenkirchen has 10 career TD grabs and is tied with former tight end Robert Johnson (200002). Lutzenkirchen has three TD catches this season after setting a career-best with five in 2010.
TIGERS PERFECT TWICE SINCE 2004 Auburn is the only Southeastern Conference team to record two perfect seasons since 2004, going 13-0 in ‘04 and 14-0 in 2010. Since the 2004 season, Auburn has won 41 of its 58 SEC games and 43 of its 60 games against SEC schools, including the 2004 (vs. Tennessee) and 2010 (vs. South Carolina) SEC Championship games. BLAKE MOVES INTO TOP 10 Junior WR Emory Blake moved into a tie for eighth on the Auburn career touchdown receptions list following his 10-yard TD catch vs. FAU. Blake is tied with former WR’s Ronney Daniels (1999-2000), Tyrone Goodson (1993-97) and Freddie Hyatt (1965-67) with 12 career TD receptions. Blake needs two scoring catches to move into a tie for seventh place with Lawyer Tillman (198588) with 14. PICK ‘EM Auburn set a season high by picking off three passes in the win vs. FAU. Jake Holland and Jermaine Whitehead each recorded their first career INT’s, while Neiko Thorpe registered his fifth career pick. The three INT’s were the most in a game by Auburn since picking off five passes against Northwestern in the 2010 Outback Bowl. Additionally, Whitehead returned his thirdquarter pick 25 yards for a touchdown, giving AU two interception returns for scores this season. Demetruce McNeal returned an INT 43 yards for a TD in Auburn’s win over Mississippi State on Sept. 10. Auburn has not had more than two interception returns for scores in a season since 2009 when the Tigers returned three for TD’s. The AU record for INT’s returned for scores in a season is four by the 1993 and 1994 teams. DYER TIES RECORD Sophomore RB Michael Dyer tied the Auburn record for rushing attempts in a game with 41 vs. South Carolina. Dyer now shares the record with former Auburn RB Carnell Williams who ran 41 times at Georgia in 2001. Dyer also notched his third game with 100 yards or more rushing this season, going for 141 against the Gamecocks. It was the seventh time Dyer has gone over the century mark for his career. DISMUKES IN SMALL COMPANY Starting center Reese Dismukes is one of just five true freshmen to start on the offensive line among the 67 BCS automatic-qualifying teams. Dismukes is one of three true freshmen starters on the offensive line in the Southeastern Conference, joining Arkansas’ Mitch Smothers and Kentucky’s Darrian Miller. The other two true freshmen are John Miller of Louisville and Tyler Moore of Nebraska. TIGERS DOWN, NEVER OUT Under Gene Chizik, Auburn is 6-3 when trailing by 10 points or more in a game. The Tigers trailed Utah State by 14 (21-7) in the first quarter and 10 points (38-28) in the fourth quarter before rallying for a 42-38 win. Last season, Auburn had double-digit deficits against Clemson, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama but fought back to earn the win against each. In 2009, Chizik’s first Auburn team rallied to defeat West Virginia after trailing by 14. Auburn’s two losses in those games came against LSU and Arkansas, both in 2009. Prior to Chizik's arrival, Auburn was 4-44
during a 14-year span from 1995-2008 when trailing by 10 or more points. Deficits overcome by Tigers under Chizik: Deficit 24 14 14 14 14 13

ONSIDE SURPRISE Auburn has not had a failed on-side kick, including surprise on-side kicks, since 2001 and has successfully converted its last five consecutive. Auburn’s last failed on-side kick came against North Carolina in the 2001 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl later in the fourth quarter as the Tigers attempted to rally. The Tigers’ last surprise on-side kick that failed was also in 2001 in the first quarter at LSU. HALFTIME RALLIES Five times in the Chizik era the Tigers have rallied to win after trailing at halftime. The 2011 Tigers rallied from a 21-14 halftime deficit against Utah State in the season opener for a 42-38 victory. The 2010 Tigers pulled the trifecta, overcoming deficits to Clemson, South Carolina (reg. season) and Alabama. Chizik’s first team (2009) had one halftime rally to beat West Virginia. Auburn has had a pair of “walk-off ” wins under Chizik, both coming last year. 2011 Auburn Football Game Notes THE 800 CLUB For the first time in Auburn history the Tigers returned a pair of rushers who each ran for 800 yards or more the previous season. Junior Onterio McCalebb ran for 810 yards, third-best in 2010, while sophomore Michael Dyer rushed for an AU freshman record (second-most on team) 1,093 yards last season. Auburn has come close to having a pair of 800-yard rushers return the following season, the most recent coming in 2003 when Carnell Williams ran for 745 yards and Ronnie Brown ran for 1,008 yards in 2002. The Tigers nearly turned the feat in 1983 with Bo Jackson and Lionel James. Jackson ran for a then freshman record 829 yards and James rushed for 779 yards in 1982. 1,000 YARD RETURNER Michael Dyer is Auburn’s first returning 1,000-yard rusher since 2006 when RB Kenny Irons returned for his senior season. Irons led the SEC in rushing in 2005 with 1,293 yards and followed that by totaling 893 yards in ‘06. Auburn has not had a rusher total 1,000 yards or more in consecutive seasons since Carnell Williams in 2003-04. Williams ran for 1,307 in 2003 and 1,165 in 2004. Dyer is in position to become just the fourth Auburn player to post consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons. Auburn’s three previous players are: 1978 James Brooks 1,208 1979 James Brooks 1,314 1994 Stephen Davis 1,263 1995 Stephen Davis 1,068 2003 Carnell Williams 1,307 2004 Carnell Williams 1,165 TIGERS & BADGERS Auburn is one of two teams in the FBS to have two returning running backs who each rushed for 700 yards or more last season. Wisconsin is the second team as the Badgers return RB’s James White (1,052 yards) and Montee Ball (996 yards) from last season. 2011 SENIOR CLASS The Tigers began last season with a programrecord 24 seniors, all of which had playing experience or had lettered. Auburn opened the 2011 season with just 11 seniors who have lettered, which is tied for the third lowest total in the modern era. The 1978 Tigers had the fewest seniors who had lettered with nine. The 1973 team had 10, while the 1981, 2001 and 2011 teams each had 11. Auburn’s 2011 senior class includes: Quindarius Carr, Drew Cole, Jared Cooper, Eltoro Freeman, A.J. Green, Josh Harris, Davis Hooper, Chris Humphries, Brandon Mosley, Ashton Richardson and Neiko Thorpe.

Auburn used a pair of minute-and-a-half scoring drives late in the fourth quarter to overcome a 10-point deficit and defeat Utah State, 42-38, in the seasonopening game of the 2011 football season at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Barrett Trotter was 17-for-23 for 261 yards and three touchdowns through the air in his first career start while Michael Dyer led Auburn with 57 rushing yards. Trotter was one of 11 Tigers making their first collegiate start. Auburn also had 21 players make their first career appearance as a Tiger in the game. Of the 21, eight were redshirt freshmen and 13 were true freshmen. Trailing 38-28 with 3:38 remaining in the game after a Robert Turbin rushing touchdown for Utah State, Auburn covered 65 yards in just six plays to draw within three, 38-35. Trotter was 3-for-4 for 62 yards on the drive, capped off by a Philip Lutzenkirchen 15 yards touchdown catch. Auburn successfully converted an onside kick following the Lutzenkirchen score, with Emory Blake recovering the kick. That set up Auburn on its own 44 with 2:07 left in the game. Trotter was again 3-for-4 on the drive, covering 29 yards, while Onterio McCalebb rushed it three times for 26 yards, setting up Dyer for a one yard touchdown run up the middle for the game-winning score. Auburn had to rally from a 14 point deficit midway through the second quarter, trailing 21-7 after the first of two Turbin (22 rushes, 70 yards) touchdown runs. True freshman Tre Mason sparked the comeback with his 97 yard kickoff return following the Turbin touchdown, drawing Auburn to within a touchdown, 21-14, a score that would hold into halftime. Mason’s 97-yard return ranks as the eighth-longest in school history. He would go on to finish with 176 kickoff return yards, tying for the third-most in a game in school history. Dyer tied the game at 21-21 on Auburn's first possession of the second half, running it in from the 11 yard line to complete an 11 play, 65-yard drive. Auburn had five touchdown drives and only one lasted more than three minutes, it being the drive out of the half which lasted just 3:46. Three of the other four were just over a minute-and-ahalf while the other lasted 2:55. September 10, 2011 • SEC Network Jordan-Hare Stadium (87,451) • Auburn, Ala.
Ryan Smith made a game-saving tackle on Mississippi State quarterback Chris Relf at the goal line as time expired to preserve Auburn’s 41-34 victory over No. 16 Mississippi State on Sept. 10 at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The two teams combined for 28 first quarter points and 55 first half points before both defenses tightened up and Auburn won its 17th consecutive game, currently the longest in FBS. Barrett Trotter, who finished the game 16-for-23 for 146 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, hit tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen for a 10-yard touchdown pass just under a minute into the fourth quarter to give Auburn a 14-point cushion, 41-27. Auburn, which trailed just once in the game, won its seventh straight game against a team ranked in the AP poll. Trotter’s favorite target on the afternoon was Emory Blake, who caught seven passes for 108 yards with a touchdown. Blake’s touchdown catch, a 46-yard catchand-run, tied the game at 21-21 in the second quarter as Auburn scored 17 points in the second quarter to take a 31-24 lead into the half. Michael Dyer rushed for 150 yards on 18 carries, averaging 8.3 yards per carry, scoring twice. His first touchdown came on Auburn’s first possession of the game when he went 35 yards for the score to put Auburn up, 7-0. His second touchdown gave Auburn the lead for good at 28-21 with 4:51 left in the first half as he went in from two yards out to cap a six-play, 59-yard drive. Auburn took a 14-0 lead less than four minutes into the game as Demetruce McNeal returned a Relf interception 43 yards for the score. Mississippi State wasted little time answering as LaDarius Perkins (11 rushes, 78 yards), scored on a 40-yard run less than a minute after McNeal’s score and then Relf found Brandon Heavens for a 15-yard touchdown pass four minutes later to tie it at 14-14. Relf finished the game 20-for-33 for 195 yards with a touchdown and an interception and also rushed 27 times for 106 yards. Vick Ballard was the top rusher for Mississippi State, tallying 135 yards on 21 carries. A 20-point third quarter propelled the Auburn Tigers to a 30-14 victory over Florida Atlantic on Saturday night before 82,249 fans at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Quarterback Barrett Trotter finished 16-for-28 passing for 178 yards, tossing two touchdown passes along with one interception. Michael Dyer led the Auburn rushing attack with 68 yards on 14 carries, and Emory Blake had 78 yards on five receptions with a touchdown. The Auburn defense, however, was responsible for a good amount of the Tiger offense. Auburn had three interceptions on the night with two leading to points. Neiko Thorpe and Jermaine Whitehead each had a pick in the third quarter, with Whitehead returning his 25 yards for a touchdown to give Auburn a 17-6 lead on FAU’s third offensive play of the half. It was the first career interception and touchdown for Whitehead. Thorpe’s interception later in the quarter was the fifth of his career and set up a 31-yard field goal by Cody Parkey to give Auburn a 27-6 lead with 6:51 on the clock in the third. Between the two interceptions, Trotter found McCalebb on a screen pass that went for 51 yards and an Auburn touchdown, increasing the Tiger lead to 24-6 at the 8:07 mark of the third quarter. It was the second receiving touchdown of McCalebb’s career and his longest reception as a Tiger, surpassing a 25-yard catch against Utah State earlier this season. Parkey would tack on his third field goal of the night with a 37-yard kick to extend the Auburn lead to 30-6 on the final play of the third quarter. FAU got on the board first, taking advantage of an Auburn turnover deep in Tiger territory. The Owls picked up one first down, then settled for a 39-yard field goal from Vinny Zaccario to take a 3-0 lead. Auburn would answer on its next possession, putting together an 11-play, 60yard drive that ended with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Trotter to Blake; Parkey would kick it to 7-3 midway through the first quarter. The Tigers would again march into Owl territory on their next possession and increase their lead to 10-3 on a 41-yard Parkey field goal just before the end of the opening period.
