AUBURN-VICTORY UNIV. SERIES This is the first meeting between the Tigers and Eagles. TONY BARBEE vs. VICTORY UNIV. This is the first time Auburn head coach Tony Barbee has coached against Victory University. 2nd of 2 EXHIBITIONS Auburn will play the second of its two preseason exhibition games vs. Victory University on Saturday prior to the season opener vs. McNeese State on Nov. 11 at Auburn Arena. The Tigers jumped out to a 50-19 halftime lead on Paine College in the exhibition opener and coasted to an 86-60 win last Tuesday. 6 DOUBLE FIGURE SCORERS Auburn had six players score double figures in its 86-60 victory over Paine College in its exhibition opener. Chris Denson scored a game-high 21 points, Rob Chubb had 14 points and 8 rebounds while Kenny Gabriel, Allen Payne and Josh Wallace had 12 points apiece. HELP ARRIVES The Tigers will have one of the top, if not the best, backcourts in the SEC in Frankie Sullivan, Texas transfer Varez Ward and Clemson transfer Noel Johnson. Sullivan was Auburn's leading returning scorer for last season before he had left knee surgery July 27, 2010, and missed all but 6 games last year. Ward, a Montgomery, Ala., native was a starting point guard at Texas before transferring to get closer to home.
Johnson, who is not eligible until after fall semester, is an athletic 3-point specialist. HELP ARRIVES • PART II A highly-touted freshman class also brings help to the Tigers. Willy Kouassi, a top 60 recruit, is a 6-foot-10, 219-pound center from the Ivory Coast. Cedrick McAfee, a 6-3, 175 guard from Memphis Melrose High, is a top 125 recruit and will vie for playing time in Auburn's deep backcourt. Bernard Morena, who was a teammate of Kouassi's at Birmingham's Central Park Christian, is a 6-foot-8, 190-pound, forward from the Ivory Coast. KENNY G Senior Kenny Gabriel is Auburn's leading returning scorer and rebounder from last season, averaging 10.3 ppg and 5.8 rpg, respectively. The Charlotte, N.C., native had the fourth most improved ppg in the SEC last year with a +7.5 ppg from the season prior. He was named SEC Player of the Week the final week of the season, March 1-6, by averaging 20.0 ppg and 9.0 rpg in wins at LSU and vs. Ole Miss. Gabriel scored career-high 24 points (3-5 3fgs) and had 7 rebounds vs. Ole Miss before recording his third double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds at LSU.

FRANKIE Junior Frankie Sullivan received a medical hardship waiver after only playing in six games last season and has two years of eligibility remaining. He averaged 8.2 points and 3.0 assists in 24.7 minutes in the final six non-conference games, starting the final four. The Uniontown, Ala., native had left knee surgery on July 27, 2010 and missed Auburn's opening eight games and the final 17 games. Sullivan averaged 12.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.9 steals for Auburn as a sophomore in 2009-10 while starting all but one of the 31 games. He shot 43.1 percent from the field and 37.1 percent from 3-point range.
WALLACE MAKING A POINT Junior walk-on Josh Wallace was ranked second in the SEC with 1.7 steals, was fourth in the league with 3.87 assists and was third with a 1.82 assist-toturnover ratio. The Pensacola, Fla., native played in all 31 games, starting 26. The 26 games started is both the single-season and career record by a walk-on in Auburn history. Wallace started the first five games of the season and the final 21.
BIG OFFSEASON FOR CHUBB Junior Rob Chubb, who averaged 7.6 points and 3.8 rebounds in 20.2 minutes per game in his first significant collegiate playing time last year as a sophomore, gained 20 pounds to his 6-foot-10 frame during the offseason.
THEY HAD GAME Auburn's coaching staff ranks second nationally among Div. I coaching staffs in points scored. Auburn's coaching staff (Div. I players only) scored 4,373 points total in their collegiate careers. Tony Barbee scored 1,643

points at UMass, Milt Wagner finished fourth on Louisville's all-time scoring chart with 1,836 points and Tony Madlock had 894 points. Here is a listing of the top five coaching staffs: 1. Tennessee ........ 5,381 2. Auburn .............. 4,373 3. Valparaiso ......... 4,146 4. Kansas.............. 3,834 5. Duke ................. 3,805 The list includes only true “coaches” in title (no support staff members like directors of ops, video coordinators, etc). It only takes into account points scored while playing for Division I institutions. QUOTING TONY BARBEE (On Auburn going into the second exhibition game) “It is an exciting time to get to play our second game-like situation that really doesn't count on our season schedule. It gives us a chance to see how much improvement we can make between last Tuesday and Saturday. It is our last really tuneup before the regular season starts on Nov. 11."
(Does it make it more of an important game since it is the final exhibition before the season opener?) “As a coach, you are just trying to continue to stair step your way into the season, really fine tune some things that you are doing well and continue to work hard on the things that you are not doing well. Also, there are always going to be in basketball at this time of the year, new things that you are going to need to address whether it is attacking the press or defending an out of bounds play or something like that which we just need to continue to get in our mind and get into a game-mode so to speak." (What do you hope to get out of this final exhibition?) “Number one, a combination of what team plays the best and what parts of the game as well as how we are executing what we have practiced. We must continue to add our playbook as each day goes on, but you are just trying to figure out maybe if a play worked very, very well last season, that even if it doesn't fit this group, what does actually fit. It is kind of a maturation process throughout the year, and this is kind of just the first stage of it."

Denson’s game-high 21 points and Rob Chubb’s 14 points and eight rebounds in the exhibition opener in Auburn Arena. Kenny Gabriel added 12 points and eight rebounds, Allen Payne 12 points, six boards and four assists and Josh Wallace 12 points and five assists. Auburn outrebounded the Lions 47-30 and racked up 19 assists. Auburn opened a 13-1 lead and Paine College missed its first seven shots from the field before its first basket with 12:47 left in the first half. Following that basket, the Tigers responded with a 26-7 run to push their advantage to 39-10 with just north of four minutes to go. The Lions shot just 5-for-26 (19.2 percent) from the field in the first half and 33.3 percent for the game. Chris Denson knocked down a pair of treys followed by a Varez Ward free throw to give Auburn a 33-point advantage. A lay-up by Paine College’s Cederick Flemming left the Tigers up 5019 at the break. The Lions used a 15-4 run to close to 57-34 with 15:43 left, but Auburn answered with a three-point play from Denson, then a dunk by freshman Willy Kouassi to stop the run. Paine kept

pushing though and a pair of free throws by Mario Jordan, followed by a two from Tony Baker dropped the Auburn lead below 20 for the first time since it was 25-6 with just less than eight minutes to go in the opening half. Frankie Sullivan’s trey from the corner made it 71-51 Auburn with 7:13 left. Denson went 3-of-5 from 3-point range. James Devlin led Paine with 14 points. NOEL JOHNSON ELIGIBLE AFTER FALL SEMESTER Junior Noel Johnson, a 6-foot-7, 200-pound, sophomore guard who transferred from Clemson, will be eligible to play after this fall semester and will have 1.5 years of eligibility for Auburn. “We are excited about Noel joining the Auburn Family,” said Barbee. “He is a talented player. When you have a guy with his size and his skills, a 6-foot-7 guard who can handle it, who can shoot it, who can pass it, he is a matchup nightmare for teams. He is a big-time shooter. When he lets the ball go you think it is going in every time. He shoots with range. He can do a lot of things. He is very skilled. “As good of a basketball player as he is, he is just as good a person. I am excited about what Noel is going to bring the

AUBURN ARENA QUICK SKETCH Entering its second season, the official groundbreaking of the new $86 million Auburn basketball arena and practice
Auburn-Victory University Game Notes -- page 5
facility was on Aug. 29, 2008. The Auburn Arena, with a capacity of 9,121, includes over 29,000 square feet of student-athlete space, a two-court practice facility, coaches offices, the Auburn University Athletic Ticket Office, an AU Team Store, the relocated Lovelace Museum and two food courts along with many other amenities. 360 Architecture of Kansas City, Mo., worked with Davis Architects of Birmingham on the design of the arena. The firm of Robins & Morton of Birmingham served as construction manager. The 243,792 square foot facility features chair back seats along with bleacher seating for students. The building also provides improved facilities for the student-athletes, including men's and women's locker room suites with sports medicine facilities, lounges and team meeting rooms. Along with a strength and conditioning center, a two-court practice facility enables the team another practice areas. The arena has 12 luxury suites on the arena level that not only open inside the facility, but also opens on the outside of the arena for multiple entertaining opportunities throughout the year. Loge box seating also is available as well as on-site food preparation. The seating configuration offers better sight lines and moves fans closer to the court. The furthest seat is just 43 feet in elevation from courtside, compared to 60 feet in elevation at Beard-Eaves, with two-thirds of the seats in Auburn Arena being less than 27 feet in elevation from courtside. The scoreboard features a highdefinition video board with full message/ information center technology. For the student fan amenities, there is a private entrance, a private courtside commons and food court and courtside seating that permits standing with unobstructed views. The new facility serves as more than a sports complex. With over 12,000 square feet of banquet/entertainment space, its design affords ready adaptation into a site for concerts, other cultural events, convocations and other community gatherings. On-campus student housing is adjacent to the new arena creating a unique "student village" experience.
