for a video, forcing people to click on it and the video ends up being this video. The most frustrating and hilarious trends on the World Wide Web.
Alt J - Breezeblocks This video was introduced to me earlier this year. It is particularly interesting to watch because the entire video is backwards. There are many music videos that do this theme, but the story told in this video is morbid and hooks you in, as it mimics some plot you would see on television. This makes the song pose as a background song in a bigger story, for now I wouldn’t listen to the song on its own without the video. There’s a hidden power of a music video. It can tell a story, or show a side of the song to a listener from the band’s perspective. However, if someone gets used to the video, it may be hard to listen to the song on its own. That’s why there are so many careers in music video production alone coming up with the ideas, setting the right scene, and painting the perfect picture in someone’s head. Of course, Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” is probably the most hated music video of all time, due to the Internet trend of being “Rick Rolled.” Rick rolling someone is creating an intriguing subject 12

The sounds of children filled the air alongside iconic Disney melodies being played throughout the parks. Yes, I was at Disneyland Paris! You really do become a big kid enjoying the surroundings and various entertainment programmes. However, it's lovely to say that the classic tales still make up the majority of the parks' features. There are nods to the newer Disney acts in some parades, but the charm remains intact. In fact, a highlight was the Cinemagic screening which pieces together memorable films in a quaint fashion also depicting a love story. We were also lucky enough to catch the Ohio University Marching Band in action bringing a great energetic vibe in an exceptionally regimented manner. Consisting of 245 members, the Marching 110 has performed in NFL halftime shows, NYC's Carnegie Hall, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parades and internationally. 14

“It was definitely a jam-packed whirlwind of a trip. We took a day to settle in upon arrival and then spent the next three days performing at the American Cemetery & Memorial at Normandy, the foot of the Eiffel Tower, and then Disneyland Paris (where you saw us!). This was the first time myself and many others have ventured outside the American border, and almost all of us didn't know what to expect out of performing for a crowd who almost definitely knew nothing about us. The 110 actually performed in Ireland and Italy back in 2013, but only a minority (4th/5thyear members) got to experience that. We're used to an adoring crowd during our halftime shows back here in Ohio and always impress opposing fans when we occasionally travel on the road with the football team, but who knows what to expect from international spectators? It was exciting to see our high-energy style met well by this untapped crowd, where the smiles were wide and the cheers were loud. After the performance days, we got to explore Paris (with one quick day in London) and focus on taking in all the culture and entertainment the city had to offer. Kyle Arnott, Ohio University Marching 110 Trombonist. One sound that really is a focus in the parks is a simple sparkle. Prior to all announcements and events, this pretty twinkly jingle will play gaining your attention and opening your mind to the magic that proceeds! 15

No matter how different our experiences are, we have one thing in common. Life itself. Each and every one of us hzs been given the gift of life. The person next to you has been birthed the same way that you were, and is sharing the same world that you live in. We need to recognise how connected we are to one another, instead of dividing ourselves by our differences. If only our eyes saw souls instead of bodies, how different our ideals of beauty would be. Only by seeing ourselves as one, our world would live as one. Inspired by John Lennon's 'Imagine'. -- David 17

Music is Medicine for My Mental Health.

Music. The word alone can ignite such excitement into me it’s unreal. When I’m happy, sad, down, relaxing or falling asleep music is there for me. It’s the one thing in my life that I know for certain can help me through the darkest of days. Even though my taste varies during the day it’s still always blaring into my ears, and soul through my skull candy headphones. For when I wake up and it’s sunny I blast Vybz Kartel, to when I’m falling asleep I’ll be soothed by James Bay, and inbetween those moments it has to be Daughtry. You see each of these artists and their songs double as my voice when I feel I just have no words. Music has helped me and my journey of Mental Health an awful lot. For some days I can barely find the energy to open the curtains and that is when my sad songs are played. As soon as the music starts to play in my ear I am filled with such an inspiration, for each song to me has a deep meaning, it’s something I can relate to.

As soon as the music starts to play in my ear I am filled with such an inspiration, for each song to me has a deep meaning, it’s something I can relate to. Music saved me in many ways and is always the core foundation for my writing. Every artist on my phone has been through a journey, they each have a story to tell and they do so through songwriting James Bay and his acoustic lullaby voice is my remedy at the moment for helping me through my dark days. His voice alone projects so much emotion it almost makes you want to cry. ‘Need The Sun To Break’ is my utmost favourite song of his and I have had it on repeat every night for four weeks The raw emotion of the song is enough to give me goosebumps. Music has and always will be my medicine, my saviour and inspiration. It speaks to people when I can’t and expresses what I can’t get out. For as long as I have the ability to hear, I will drown out the world with music. p

Your mouth was full of promises You said you’ l l be giving all chances Where have you been? Could you have stayed here for a while? Could you have honored your say? All gone astray The cards you hold brought that wicked smile All your promises turned into dust Chosen amongst the rest You’ v e been given a trust You’ v e dwelled in your lust And lied so much How can we turn to you How can we trust in you Your truth is lacking Your very essence is missing One thing I know for sure Is that I have the right to choose Choose my own path and my destiny We’ v e got to rally Chase away those white lies So as not to be shrouded by dark times Brothers it's our right In a brotherly love and God we trust We gonna fight for what we deserve Fight for our lives

KP has returned with another single this time he turns his attention to a more up-tempo track, which is produced by South London's Jon Daves. Bristol. 'Black City' is the As played on podcast #184, when the track comes to a stop, RCM's words are "Wow, wow." fifteenyearsbristol.bandcamp.com RCM champion incredible undiscovered & under-appreciated music from around the world. Here are a few favourite's this month..
Ellie Ford – July A very pretty track surrounding a beautiful voice. THe visuals match with lovely simplicity. One room, black & white, presenting the artist as she sings and plays the Harp. Fifteen Years – Black City Now this is not a track for the faint hearted. This is full on energy, full on rocking out! Straight in, you're smacked in the face with punchy electric guitar riffs and the drums kick in with full force. It's hard not move to the beat and join in with more gusto at the chorus.
'July' is a part of 'The Other Sun' album and Ellie was chosen as RCM's artist of the week during the last month. They descibe the album as being "full of delightful, homespun charm, at times reminiscent of Joan As Policewoman or Feist." www.elliefordmusic.com

A refreshing release to welcome in the sunshine. The remixes play with the tones adding vibrancy, allowing this to be a transferable piece for any summer playlist. British house producer Michael Gray strolls into the summer with his new single ‘Walk Into The Sun’ on Electrik Funk. He revisits the track after it featured on his 2007 ‘Analogue Is On’ artist album originally only available in Japan that due to contractual reasons never received a full release. You can see why Michael wanted to revisit this gem when you hear Steve Edwards (Xpress 2, Cassius, Axwell), Shena, Xavier & Detroit dance royalty Ann Saunderson all raising the temperature on vocal duties. The single shines brightly once again with Full Intention, Kizzmo & Focus providing the re-works. Very early DJ support has come in from Kaiserdisco, Philippe Zdar (Cassius), Tedd Patterson, Jean Paul Ghetto & Joyce Muniz to name a few and with it already a Traxsource Top 10 entry it’s easy to see and hear this becoming a SS16 anthem. www.michaelgrayofficial.com

Fragmented structures and disorientated feelings. Incredible compositions of art as always from the label. This release perfectly capturing the struggles of difficult relations, and, the mind's agony and despair.
Mind Of A Dragon is one of the most exciting producers to emerge in recent years, with a distinct take on garage that feels light years ahead from current productions. The London producer brings that unique style to the fore with his first full release on Slime for the ‘Emotions’ EP, containing a body of work that redefines what UKG can be in 2016. ‘Truth’ sets the tone early with melancholy chords developing over a brooding atmosphere, strapped to pitch-perfect percussion and soulful female vocals before unfurling in glorious style over a monstrous descending bassline and spaced-out melodies. ‘Emotions’ brings the flavour of the former track across a minimal rhythm that rightly gives the individual elements of the track room to breathe within its sparse template. The bass feels powerful enough to rattle your ribcage, but the melody sweetly works its way into your mind and will likely remain there forever. ‘Not The Same’ combines an uneasy sense of eeriness with discordant samples and ethereal vocals before coalescing into a spartan bubbler that houses a gargantuan bassline deep within its skeletal frame. By reducing the individual components of garage into its base parts, the rawness of this undiluted sound becomes strangely fresh and compelling, twisting into new forms. For the closing track, the producer joins forces with fellow garage don Cellardore on the narcotic rhythm of ‘Thoughts’, moving through contemplative chords and staccato vocals before descending into a bass-heavy jam packed full of skip and swing that further reinforces both artists reputation as two of the most forwardthinking producers working in UKG today. To be released on Slime Recordings, 17th June 2016. www.slimerecordings.co.uk 26

A beautifully composed RnB style piece with detailed structure produced by Hannah V. 'I Ain't The One' is accompanied by lovely smooth vocals from Andreya Triana. 2015 introduced producer Hannah V to us with a string of releases under Sony Imprint Pitched Up. Her ‘Version 2.0’ EP included the critically acclaimed title track championed by tastemaker DJs including Mistajam, Target and Huw Stephens and her second single “It Ain’t Right” was the soundtrack of a global Rimmel campaign. Hannah V is back now after a short hiatus – this time accompanied by none other than the stunning Andreya Triana on vocals. ‘I Ain’t The One’ showcases a whole new side to Hannah V’s beat making – this one feels heavy and hits hella hard – reminiscent of the Soulection crew, but with flavours of Hit Boy thrown in for good measure. Her jazz background really shines on this track as well, as she delves in and out of unusual, yet strangely mesmerizing chord structures and instrumentation. Andreya’s husky vocals weave in and out of this song, ending with the statement “I Ain’t The One”. There is something defiant and bolshy about this Hannah V track and we are loving this unapologetic undercurrent we are sensing. Growing up in Berlin, the classically trained Indian pianist draws influences from the jazz music she was captivated by as a teenager, before moving to London to study at the Royal Academy of Music. It was here that Hannah’s love affair with tech and production began before being called in to play keys on world tours for artists such as Rihanna and Jessie J. But this all lies in the past – with the tracks Hannah V is putting out, we don’t see her returning to the touring world soon, unless she is performing her own material! soundcloud.com/hannahvofficial 27

Reminiscent of The Streets in the vocals with that direct attitude, you know you'll get the real deal. The visuals partially in a gloomy hue show the characters gaining momentum and enjoying the session. Thetford MC Franko Fraize takes you on a journey for the brand new striking visuals for his new single ‘Only’. The visuals match the stirring track perfectly as a story is played out in front of our eyes in a poignant, empathic display of solitude. As the keys open up the record, there’s a feeling of melancholy within the notes. For a second you could be forgiven for thinking that a ballad was about to proceed. Then the beat kicks in. Then Franko Fraize arrives, and everything you thought you were getting changes up to present ‘Only’. While a deep rock bassline rumbles from the bass guitar, flashes of drum and bass strike through via syncopated beats to reveal the whistling synths. Franko Fraize bounces in to action as his unmistakable Thetford tones begin their journey and his reality bars ring a sense of truth as you connect to them, culminating in a break that intensifies the feeling deep within you. Having previously played at the world famous Jazz Café, Radio 1’s Big Weekend and Wembley, as well as supporting Rudimental and Mike Skinner, Franko Fraize is a seasoned performer and a master at captivating his fans through his lyrics. Adding to his impressive list of live performances, Franko Fraize gears up to perform at Reading & Leeds in summer 2016. A ‘salt of the Earth’ kind of guy, his lyrics are bold and courageous and his accent is always prevalent making him relatable and accessible. There’s an essence of Train Spotting about him with a nod to old-time family favorites such as The Specials and The Clash yet an after taste of The Streets, but despite his influences, Franko Fraize has a charm, a sparkle and a talent that makes him distinct. I really loved the album.. We wanted to talk to you more about your musical background and how you first came with a love for the art of music, slowly growing into what you are now as a writer and a performer.
you decided to create this album, what were the goals? Some albums come about by somebody writing a whole heap of songs and then deciding 'hey, maybe I should record one or two of these and turn it into an album.' What was the aim or goal for you deciding Miel: Well, first of all, thank you for the that you were going to come together interview.. and create the album, was it one song recorded or did you sit down and decide I grew up around a lot of music. My father 'we're going to do a project and try and was very interested in music, classical take this somewhere'? music and some folk music like Leonard Cohen and Janis Joplin playing all the Miel: Initially I did have an album project time in the house. I attuned to it very when I was singing, before I met Andy, early and I did always have this dream of doing French chansons in an of being involved somehow in singing innovative way. I was looking for later on. But, it never was something somebody who could help me with that, that was considered seriously around and so when I was introduced to Andy, me even though my family asked me to he said "well actually, I've worked with sing at certain events, I was in the choir Franรงoise Hardy" - one of my heroines! and musicals, but I never really shone I said "wow, that's amazing", along with in any way. beautiful arrangements. It was this wonderful process where we would sit together and create these songs and then work on the ideas for the French ones as well. Andy: The interesting thing is, from my point of view, is that I get approached by a lot of people to come and do music with me and sometimes people have very short amount of time to satisfy their ambition. Because, they perhaps think "well, this is just a bit of fun, I'm going to do it." If people have enough resources to do that and for it to just be boxed into a small frame like that "we've done that and it's great. I've done it in my life, wasn't it good and then I'll move on and do something else". So, when I first met Miel, I asked if she was ambitious and this was because it was a factor for me to get involved and see if we can actually do something together. Even myself at the time, I didn't realise that the ambition was deep-rooted and it would be persistence, devotion, effort, attitude, style, talent and all these things brought to it. I thought "yeah, we can work with this!" I found the initial idea very interesting. French chansons, which I love, and I was very interested in working on that and taking that to another level. So, let's go with this and try this - and what I thought at the time, was that we would work more with modern orchestral arrangements with a bit of additional instrumentation and that perhaps I wouldn't do too much of that arrangement. I would maybe just get someone to do that, but in the meantime, while we're waiting for all that to happen, let's see if we can do some writing. That for me becomes a 36
very interesting challenge because if someone says to me that they like the idea, but they don't think they can do it, then all of a sudden I'm in because I think "well, I'm going to prove to you that you can." With Miel, it was like that, we did one session together - I remember it so well because I had the worst cold imaginable, I literally hit a box of tissues during the writing, I'm surprised she didn't walk out like "how dare you sneeze on me so much"! - The result was the beginning of 'Beautiful You' which we got most of it, as Miel said, from my point of view at the time I noticed it was effecting Miel emotionally and that tears were arriving and I realised we were hitting something real. From that moment, it was literally like the dam was being held in by the gates and as soon as we opened it like that, it was actually another 8 to 10 songs within few months. So that's how it started, and here we are two and a half years later with a completed album with a sort of double album and perhaps 40 live appearances under her belt, now becoming a concert performer at the same time. It's worked out very well.
I wanted to talk a little bit about the production of 'Bad Men' and the instrumentation. Tell us some of the influences that were drawn upon to create it. www.AudiationMagazine.com
Andy: Yea, Rick Reuben doing Johnny Cash, was a big one for me. In terms of the way the record sounds which I adore that production. I'm moderately capable at instruments, so if you put a guitar in my hand I can play it if I put a bassline. There are much better musicians that me in my team so I don't tend to get involved too much in playing on all my records. Miel walked in with the first part of the song in little blocks that she'd recorded on her iPhone memo. We took that, that went from the memo into my computer. At that point, Miel was a less experienced songwriter than she is now, so in fact it had less form than what she would do now in terms of the song. But all the ideas were there, the little snippets of information, the melodies and lyrics, but not always in the same order as they are now. That was our third or fourth song along. I really like it, I think it's a dark theme, so I thought to give it that Rick Reuben arpeggiated guitar with a very low piano running through. That's it, it's a very simply arrangement. It developed a little bit from there with the band when they started playing it, we started to incorporate little bits, but we were very sensitive to adding in a way because we liked the simplicity for the album version, and I still do, it's one of my favourites. A lot of the idiosyncratic timings that are embodied in that melody and things that Miel came up with naturally or was actually me just trying to give it a little bit more shape but maintain her individuality.
a charity event, something really interested me about them.. Are you going to be performing with your band? Miel: Yea, absolutely. We'll do the first set live with the band and the second set will be a lot of my more club versions so people can dance to that. There'll be quite a few new songs that have never been performed. It's going to be quite fresh, and some of the old songs from the album. It will be interesting for people who have come to see me before, there'll be some new material. And talking of live performances, what does it mean to you to perform your songs live and get to see the reactions? Miel: You know, I love it. I think doing charity performances is actually more poignant for me because I always feel that I'm giving in every way. It's quite exhausting in the end but a fantastic experience. You feel like you're connecting with people who really want to give more. Even normal performances, it's really exciting. You're wondering what the vibe of the audience is going to be, every time it's completely different. When I was touring, every city had its own vibe in the audience so it's all very exciting.
Andy: Working with the same musicians, we've had to replace one or two for occasional gigs, but by a large it's the same band for quite a while now. Sam Swallow on piano, Mark James on guitar, Dan Western on drums, Gareth Davies It is a beautiful song. You've got a few on bass. We're supplementing live dates coming up, just for our readers, what can they expect from the live shows? You'll be at GET LOUD for 37
that line up, we're going to try that line up with two new musicians, a second keyboard player that plays saxophone and a backing singer that can also play a bit of percussion. So that's going to add a little bit more size to it, and we actually haven’t auditioned them yet, they're people that I know are really good and I think they're going to be fantastic and it'll add something new. Over the course of doing lots of shows together, I've been taking the role of MD for Miel and I've seen all the rehearsals and gigs. We've tried a few things, we had a small string section on one gig, a small brass section on another gig. Usually there's a different order of songs. This time, as Miel said, there's 3 new songs in the pipeline to try.
I wanted to talk a little bit more about your music video for 'Magnetic'. Tell us a little more the video..
Miel: Yes, it's about my grandmother on my father’s side, who I never knew sadly because she died very young before I was born, but she seemingly was an extraordinary woman who would be called a spy (I guess) although she was running a group of people helping her. She wasn't quite espionage completely but she did very much help the state of Israel to be formed by passing important documents to people in Palestine and she was working as a journalist in Egypt. She was educated in Paris, she was this very erudite elegant woman and she knew all the higher strata of the Egyptian world, royal family and everything.. She was very well respected. She did relay information to people in Palestine with the aim of the Israelean state being established. She was very much peaceful, she would've been called a dove nowadays, and thought that there could be coexistence between Arabs and Jews. In that way, I really admire her. She took a lot of risks, she was imprisoned when things were discovered. She then developed stomach cancer, she had quite a sad life.
Miel: It was shot on location in Majorca. People thought, for example, that the caves were green screened which they weren’t. We were in extraordinary caves and all the locations. All the natural shots were outside and it was a beautiful place to shoot.
My father wanted her recognised and he did the first version of this film - a 3 hour version with no images or music. I produced the second version with Dan Wolman the director and it's an hour long with images and music, and it's nice to watch.
Miel: Festivals we have are Carfest, there's another one waiting to be announced, but that's very exciting and is a new development for me, I've never done that before. Maybe we can see you perform at Carfest, and that would be with the same band as well? Miel: Yep.
38
I wanted to talk about the documentary you have produced, Yolande: An Unsung Heroine. Could you tell us a little bit more about that and what it's about?
www.AudiationMagazine.com
39
Is it also available for sale? Miel: I'm happy to give out some copies if people email me. Why the album title 'Magnetic'? Miel: Being magnetic is a notion which has now achieved more prominence than before. Even when I started, it wasn't that well known. It's the idea of through positive ways of acting and being, attracting positive things to one. Which is my desire, and most people's desire. The question is how to do that. The song 'Magnetic' definitely expresses and puts it out there: this is what I'd like, I'd like a beautiful life please Lord. In the hope that it will then happen. It is amazing, ask and it is given concept.. Thank you so much, I have really appreciated your time. __________________________________

The most exciting & cultural public music competition in the world, this year hosted in Stockholm. Although European, more of the world are joining in with Eurovision-fever. This year it's broadcasting for the first time to our neighbours across the pond in USA. In addition, Australia are to perform in the contest! The one thing I always love about this colourful event is the beauty of sharing cultural sounds. It is now more evident than ever that Pop & EDM are seeping through. If only this could remain pure, but it's inevitable with the modernisation of the world that it will affect many public music occasions. Grand Final: Is real music being pushed aside for generic catchy dance tracks in the English language in an attempt to gain the best response? Unfortunately, in a lot of cases, the answer is yes. Throwing in a few classic belters for drama, still with some dullness. After a series of monotonous performances, Hungary comes on with a fighting spirit and a rather cool original piece. This is followed by Italy mostly in their pretty dialect, it doesn't quite stand out, but still is nice. Bulgaria hits us with a great dance track which you'd instantly envision in the charts, but also with little hints of their country in the sounds. Eastern Europe style, modern with cultural flair. I wasn't initially wow’ed by Australia, however the powerful ending was amazing showing the passion. A pretty voice from Croatia. We see a marmite entry from Russia, very bold and dramatic. Not even sure whether I liked it or not! Spain brings some vibrancy and striking dance music. Ukraine very much stands out with diverse tones on an interestingly percussion-focused beat. Georgia brings on some edgy indie rock sounds, not quite euro style but rather cool. A pretty song from Austria in French vocals. Female dominatrix Armenia are another striking feisty act. Results: WOW! Congratulations Ukraine. By far that was the most intense voting system. First the jury votes, Australia far ahead. The public votes follow, a massive game changer for all countries. Ukraine (Jamala – 1944) very well deserved winners!
