Hi Guys & Dolls... Midwestern band The Jades are on our cover with a natural setting, the back cover pairing together with a dark brown design. The theme of nature follows through the issue as well as a dark edge relating to the contrast of autumn's comfort against the sinful nights. Huge thanks to singer Leanne Louise who took to our Facebook page in September with some fun live sessions. In this issue, I chat with singer/songwriter Ladybank who takes her inspiration from life, she also shares her thoughts on how pain can be channeled through creativity. Sarah sits down with the indie rock duo The Jades dicussing their journey so far. The Yoga Girl gets lost in mindful tranquility with delicate sounds. On screen we check out a couple of new reality shows on E4 which puts popstars Kimberly Wyatt and Amelia Lily through their paces. In Mauritius, Steve discovers the sweet notes of singer Yvette Dantier. We've got your festival guide, radio listings and music from Roxxxan, Solarstone, Lewis James and 4th Project.

FOREST MUSIC Take a stroll through the woods and engage your senses. Bracknell, UK has had an upgrade with its new shopping centre which is named The Lexicon. The shop themselves are good with all the necessities, but the highlight is most certainly the theme of nature which takes us on an interactive journey. Listen to the sounds of the forest playing through the streets and touch the leaves of stringed instruments to create your own songs.

LADYBANK I had the pleasure of hearing Ladybank aka Carly Simone Sheen perform at The Lexicon with her beautiful voice and melodic keyboard. Though an average gig in terms of audience engagement, the music enthusiasts will have enjoyed the stage set up by South Hill Park arts centre. Here are a few words from Ladybank...

11

I'm a singer/songwriter, I'm also a mental health practitioner and I work in the local area. I've been writing songs since I was a little girl. I stopped writing for a little while then, a couple of years ago, I started writing again. I started doing some local gigs at South Hill Park and it's just taken off really. I play at South Hill Park every couple of months. This week's been quite busy, I played at South Hill Park on Monday, I'm here today (The Lexicon) and tomorrow I'm doing a showcase in Farnborough. I really enjoy it. I would describe my music as a little bit bluesy, sort of Billy Holiday at times, also drawing from people like Massive Attack and Portishead which is my kind of era. It's a blend of music, at the heart of it is that I sing about things that have happened to me, my life and things that have touched me. Inspiration... Things from my own life inspire me. If I've been through something difficult, I tend to sit at the keyboard. I play my keyboard every day, sometimes I'm up in the morning and before i've had breakfast I'll sit at the keyboard and I will have a sing. It's always been a really important part of my life, it's kind of like my notebook. Some people may literally write, for me the keyboard and singing is my way of expressing myself. Pain... I would say, the last few years, I went through a bit of a difficult time so that's why I've quite a lot of material. Pain often is good for the artist. Always seek out help if you've been through a difficult time. If you're a creative person turn to your art, it will always help you get through things and express things. There's always someone that will listen, never feel that you're on your own. We're never alone even if you feel it. If you have spiritual of religious beliefs, that too will help you get through difficult times.

The Jades Lemme tell you, Chicago truly has GREAT local music, especially in the indie/rock/singer-songwriter genres. I’ve written about some bands in the past including Twin Peaks, The Lucky Dutch and Maggie Speaks, but this band I am VERY excited to interview and introduce. Their bio stating “Two badass girls playin some folky tunes in the Midwest,” could not be more spot on! Their harmonies are calming, guitar playing is toe-tapping, their energy is electric, and they both happen to have (almost) the same name. Katie Krenning and Kathleen Lieffers make up the bluesy folk group known as The Jades. Their debut single “Remedy” dropped a little over a year ago. I could go on about the love and support I have for this group, but let’s just jump right into getting to know the more.

insisted we participate in an “ice breaker” activity in which we turn to the person on our left and our right to introduce ourselves and share an interesting fact. Both of us had no one on the other side, just each other. So we began the introductions only to find we shared the SAME interesting fact: we both write music. We became The Jades after about a year of friendship. We started showing each other music that we had been working on. After collaborating on one song, Remedy, we knew this was something we wanted to continue to pursue. We played our first show which was a Battle of the Bands; there we took home second place! It was much to our surprise, but sparked a flame that is The Jades. Why did you name your group The Jades?

For being so creative musically, we were not confident in finding a name that suited our style and unique Audiation Magazine presents… The sound. So, we took our ideas to a twitter poll. Out of the few suggested Jades! names, the people decided The Jades How did you two meet and when did was the best fit. All two of them. Plus, we are kind of jaded. play with different acts all over the city and leave events feeling moved. However, we both draw inspiration from larger groups as well such as Whitney, Tegan and Sara, and The War on Drugs. Katie grew up loving indie rock tunes that featured intense guitar licks and harmonizing melodies. While Kathleen also loves the indie rock genre, she was raised on classic rock. What is your favorite song you released and why? We both love Remedy because it gets the people going. Plus, it was the first song we collaborated on so it’s near and dear to our hearts.

One day, Kathleen and I were with a couple of friends in Humboldt Park shooting for a music video. There was a lot of random, fun energy on that brisk, Chicago afternoon. Once we scoped out the area, we decided to start shooting on the east side of the lake. We all rounded the corner and stumbled upon two broken chairs right by the water, as if they had been waiting for us. There was a short silence amongst us followed by explosive excitement and reassurance. In this moment, I felt that Kathleen and I were doing exactly what we are meant to be doing. Something as little as finding two broken chairs can make my day. I’ll tell you what.

The Yoga Girl I'm enjoying using the Down Dog app for varied yoga sessions, the music streamed also gains my interest now and then. Taken from the Fallen Light album, 'Afterglow' by Phaeleh featuring Soundmouse particularly caught my attention. It is a pretty and delicate piece of music which compliments the mindful tranquility in practice. A sublime, feathery vocal and an intricate production. Beautiful.

All Star Driving School: Episode 11-15: (Francis, Kimberly and Claudia)

E4's All Star Driving School takes on singer Kimberly Wyatt for this new show. Learning to drive is one of those stressful things in life, pushing you to your limits and challenging your skills. Let's add more stress (and humour for the viewers) by filming celebs as they take their tests. Kimberly Wyatt tells Channel 4 her favourite song whilst driving. "Cinematic Orchestra - To Build a Home - it's just my favourite tune in life and is already filled with so many memories. I can't wait for the day I have driving freedom and that song to reminisce to amongst my new life here." The 15 part series from Rumpus Media will see our famous faces join a specially created intensive driving school run by three fully qualified instructors. The celebrities will learn and take part in a series of core driving skills and challenges, all in the newly launched Suzuki Ignis. Providing how well they do, this may lead to forfeits or treats for our celebrity learner drivers. E4's Stage School welcomes singer Amelia Lily for the new term. There's no business like show business, the reality series follows students aspiring to make their dreams come true. Amelia Lily shares her advice with Channel 4 for those who want do make it in the industry. "I’ve got some tips. I think, no matter what industry I think you've got to be happy, you know? Because some people try and have an input and I think as long as you’re happy then you’re going with your gut instinct and that’s always the best instinct to go with. And I think as well, don't let people put too much pressure on you. I think it’s so easy, especially if you’ve done a reality TV show like myself, it’s very easy to get in this bubble of being under pressure so I definitely say don’t let pressure get to you too much. At the end of the day we’re only human, nerves are normal. So that would definitely be one. And thirdly, I think: keep good people around you like your family and friends - remember who’s been there for you from the start, before your career takes off or whatever, because people do come in along the way, and it happened with me, you’ve just got to keep reminding yourself of who was there from the start. Keep a good team of people around you who are going to look after you." Packed with song and dance routines performed by the talented pupils, the series charts the drama, friendships, ups and downs of life at the stage school. Stashed Music continous to carve its own indelible niche in modern electronic music, this time tapping up Ant Brooks who drops two chunk dancefloors stompers on his ‘Swervin EP’. 'Shine Your Love' by Scotty Boy & Lizzie Curious gives us a sugary sweet delight with the voice and a bright, jazzy main melody. Following their #1 Billboard hit 'You're Not Alone', Scotty Boy & Lizzie Curious return to 418 Music with a new single drenched in feelgood sun-kissed vibes. Stunning. Emotive. Passionate. 'Taking Me Over' by 4th Project is mesmerising. The beauty in the detailed sounds paired with airy vocals, also with thoughtful edits. LOVE! Slime Recordings is proud to present ‘Taking Me Over’, the debut EP from Bristol-based Electro Soul act 4th Project. 4th Project are vocalist Kathleen Fitzpatrick Milton, pianist Jack Drewry and guitarist Rowan Evans. Their music integrates soulful vocals with keyboard, electric guitar and live sampling. The band are shaping their sound around their variety of musical influences including Soul, Jazz, Funk, trip-hop and 90s R’n’B. 32

www.AudationMagazine.com

Lead track ‘Taking Me Over’ is that rare form of sonic alchemy which seems so elusive in music today. By uniting Kathleen’s emotive and intimate vocal delivery with Jack and Rowan’s gorgeous production, the band creates a memento of a broken relationship that is both heartcrushing and redemptive in turn; the song soars further into bliss with each passing note, beguiling the listener in increasingly mysterious ways. ‘Right Here’ brings the tempo up a touch with a hypnotic take on lowslung funk. The band takes flight across glittering percussion and seductive bass, merging perfectly with Kathleen’s captivating vocals and providing an enthralling retort to the former song’s story of love and loss. Garage and Dubstep royalty Enigma Dubz steps up for the lead remix with a spell-binding take on ‘Right Here’, transporting Kathleen’s vocals into a shimmering paradise of deep garage ecstasy. Delicate keys and subtle chords drift across a laconic 2-step groove before being underpinned with a cavernous bassline that drives the whole track forward with a melancholy momentum, building into something truly cinematic in it’s scope. Australian production powerhouse Aaron Static is the first to adapt ‘Taking Me Over’, stripping back the track to it’s core essentials with mesmerizing results. By slowly layering elements over a downtempo beat and letting the vocal breathe, he draws out the magic of the original song through new and enchanting paths. Scottish label-mate Blackboxx takes an equally austere approach with his take on the lead track, giving the vocal space to roam across a broken beat odyssey. Equal parts autonomic and garage, the hotly-tipped producer once again proves he’s one to watch for the future. Label veteran SPD delivers an ambitious re-moulding of the original with an uptempo dub house rhythm, mutating the vocal into new shapes across bubbling basslines and darkly evocative synth washes that will make perfect sense on a dancefloor at 4am. www.facebook.com/4thprojectbristol www.facebook.com/SlimeRecordings

An essential soundtrack for the coastal drive. 'Summerland' by Insane House is an atmospheric gem with chilled tones and uplifting melodies. 'Shapeshifter' by Lewis James is such a cool production. Heard it on the Hospital Records podcast, it made me reminisce a little with the intro and then the inquisitive mood really captivates you. The dark drop and experimental percussion pulls you onwards. Really really love this. Astrophonica welcomes Lewis James to the fold with the Shapeshifter EP. A professional sound designer and life long musician, London-based Lewis James first appeared on the label via the Gradients compilation in early 2017. With this EP he celebrates his love of jungle and drum & bass across four tracks that combine analogue and digital processes to create what he calls, "a spaced out identity, somewhere between science fiction and the dancefloor." www.soundcloud.com/unclelew 35

'Crud' by Roxxxan is FIERCE! She knows exactly who she is and she is not afraid to show it. A catchy grime beat paves the way for the no-nonsense lyrical medley. The visuals are direct flows coupled with grim masked figures. Murky shades of red and brown make this a must for the devilish Halloween season! Back on her A-game, Roxxxan comes with fury, fire and all out ‘Crud’ on her latest release. The Londan via Birmingham emcee, already famed for her ferocity on the mic, digs deep for this one. Her flow and energy at the sharpest they’ve ever been, showing her highly charged and deeply fuelled passion for the love of emceeing. Roxxx smashes out expression in abundance for delivery of the bars with long-term collaborator Mikey J on production, emphasizing her freshly revived hunger on the disgusting beat. Although Roxxxan has always shown impenetrable confidence within her music, like any emcee that came up in the major fame years (2009-11), she has had to endure the bumpy road of remaining consistent, respected and relevant. After having a break from the scene she returned last year with an honest, genuine and engaging account of her journey via the release of ‘Back To Live’ documenting some tough times for her including her anger and frustrations at the scene, time spent living in a hostel and her place being raided by police. The track served as both the end of a difficult chapter and the beginning of something new. Over recent months things have started to bubble and Roxxxan has suddenly started popping up in photos at studio sessions and with fellow emcees. With Roxxx firmly in a new zone, the release of ‘Crud’ flings open the door on her re-emergence. www.twitter.com/ROtriplex

'Hemispheres' by Solarstone & John 00 Fleming has a strong, purposeful energy driving you forward. Rather than labour on predictably about the symbolic significance of a collaboration between these two Artists - both intrinsically important to the evolution and resurgence of modern trance, let’s just discuss the music. ‘Hemispheres’ digs deep – subwoofer-rattling deep. The arrangement ploughs the furrows of hypnotic, immersive club music; filters radiate, expand & contract; shards of rhythm shatter & reassemble. Most importantly, the melody possesses a claw-like hook which buries itself under the skin throughout this 11 minute odyssey. www.puretrance.com 38

'Secrets' by Husky featuring Shyam P holds a flavourful production and catchy lyrics. The release features a bold club edit, a deep remix by J Latham and a groovy remix by Yasumo. Husky is back with a huge new single featuring his friend and vocalist powerhouse, Shyam P. The 2 have been working on ‘Secrets’ for quite some time now with 2 original versions to diversify Shyam’s amazing vocals. The ‘classic mix’ oozes soul and garage elements staying true to the soulful tones of the vocal. The ‘club mix’ is wise by name and nature, offering up a bouncing bass groove, snappy drums with climactic breakdowns, the Club mix is the one to reach for when the lights go down. On the remixes we welcome back J Latham from the UK with his special brand of late night revelry. Pitching down the vocals and offering a throbbing underground bass line, this remix is going to shake some speakers globally – It’s a pure roller! Lastly we welcome Melbourne’s rising disco enthusiasts, Yasumo. The lads have turned out a cracking little funk monster here with all the right vibes for those French house and Nu-Disco fans. Everybody’s got Secrets! www.facebook.com/BobbinHeadMusic 39

'Dance Floor' by B Mac, Denzee & Samzy delivers choppy vocals, a bumpy beat and an easy-going vibe. Let's hit the dance floor coz this get's your body moving with that great UKG feel. B Mac has hit the big time with this banger! ‘Dance Floor’ is a bumpin’ 2 step UK Garage track that fills the whole room with energy that you cannot help yourself but get down and dirty to. It brings on that real ‘feel good factor’ that has been missing from clubland in more recent times, and when ‘Dance Floor’ is pumping out from the speakers it just lifts the whole mood, encouraging phat and funky moves and bringing smiles to everyones face; a definite feel good tune that just gets everyone enjoying themselves. www.twitter.com/bmacthedrop

My Musical Encounters, 6 September 2017 nearly 17:50 I was invited for a corporate event and the area despite being in middle of the sugarcane fields, was gorgeous. Well-lit and decorated , it was nearly an eyegasm. One thing caught my attention was the stage near the alley. A stool and an electro acoustic guitar with a capo on. That reminded me of a video I have just watched earlier. When I asked around, who will be on stage they confirmed that it will be Yvette Dantier. It was rather a cold evening and being here fully exposed to the wind did not help at all. Nevertheless, she kept her warm smile along with her sweet voice as well as being playful with the jazzy notes from her guitar. It was such a treat, eargasm. I wished I could stay here for as long as her show would have lasted. Unfortunately I needed to move in. A brief talk with her caught some details about her musical moves and that, is full of promise. She seemed almost excited about how things were going; in the right way. I can only wish her the best. Please support her by liking her page and watching her YouTube channel. www.facebook.com/yvettedantiermusic 42
