Apps in the Meeting Room In the UK, we spend over £130 million annually on Apps for our Phones and Tablets. Apps for Control A market has grown with apps that function as simple control systems for home use, the mobile being used as a control panel. One can for example control a switch via radio, or start the coffee machine in the office already from one's car. Manufacturers of control systems, home theatre, projectors and smart TVs have of course been quick to make apps for controlling their own machines. Experience tells us that free standing touch screens of this kind in professional settings tend to "disappear" pretty fast, they also need to be charged, virus scanned or updated at exactly the wrong time. They can therefore not be considered as alternatives to professional control systems, where everything has to work each time you press a button. Attached surf-tablets or control by your own mobile phone are more interesting solutions where control is limited to one or a few individuals.
Apps for Conference Participants. For the following video conference systems there are mobile apps that can be used to participate in meetings with both voice and video: • Webex (Mobile support for voice, video, documents, presentations) Cisco's cloud service that you log on to on-line. Support for Cisco's own products, of course.
• Microsoft Lync 2013 (Mobile support for voice, video and instant messaging) Part of Office 365. Since Microsoft Office is one of the standard solutions in UK companies and government agencies, you are sure to run into Microsoft Lync sooner or later. • Adobe Connect (Mobile support for voice, video, and presentations) Apart from the app, you need an Adobe Connect account. The price of the entire solution is dependent on your choice of payment plan and on the number of users. The system supports phones, tablets and PCs.
• Acano (Mobile support for voice, video, and presentations) A cloud-based bridging service that connects clients with Microsoft Lync, clients using the Google Chrome browser and traditional systems such as Cisco, Polycom, iPhone, iPad, etc.. The advantage is it´s openness, which means that everyone can participate no matter which mobile unit or video conferencing they use. This opens up a world of collaborative possibilities, for example, for those who feel "imprisoned" in their technical setting.

A Success Story! More than 10,000 Erasers Sold! Erik Frisell tells a product success story.
The eraser can be used as a pen tray if you turn it the right way and is comfortable and easy to hold, whether you have large or small hands.
On a Monday, a few years ago, Mike came to work as usual and on the start-up meeting for the week he told me that he and his children had seen our eraser in a children's programme on TV... The programme, Hj채rnkontoret, was about design and our board eraser was one of several examples of design. The sad part, Mike thought, was that our eraser was held up as an example of poor design. Our meeting actually came to a halt since no one thought it was nice to be associated with something negative, especially not in a children's programme. A consolation was that everyone in the industry delivered the same type of eraser, but that was probably more of a poor excuse.
Time went by, but we couldn't "erase" this negative memory. Mike handled the problem by starting to see it as an opportunity - positive thinking - and by presenting a blueprint for a new eraser. Since everyone, including me who was managing the money, felt that we must do something, we started a development project: New eraser. After having completed the sketches and designed a new eraser with ergonomics, environment, aesthetics and of course, perfect function, it was time for the calculations. We came to a wall, since just the tool would cost a small fortune. Nor was there any chance of the usual return on the project, based on historical and closest future forecast sales volumes. A lot of money was missing, if I recall correctly, over 100 000 SEK. After much thinking, having the TV programme in mind, we rethought the whole project and looked on it as pure marketing.

Then we could justify the cost with a clear conscience. We pursued and completed the project and can now, with hindsight, note that it has become one of our best selling blockbusters ever, possibly after the onearmed flipchart board. The product has now evolved into a completely eco-friendly cleaning system - Miraclean - and we have sold more than 10 000 erasers, plus accessories such as the Miraclean surface and the water bottle. So thank you Hj채rnkontoret for the constructive criticism! The result is that today we have a very competitive product that has benefited many.

4K and 8K are coming We must constantly buy new gadgets or the electronics industry goes out of business! Therefore progress moves towards better image quality and higher resolution.
Not long ago, we went from VGA (307200 pixels) to XGA (786432 pixels), which felt like a great change for pictures.
Definition format. Sony has already visited our showroom in Skarpn채ck and demonstrated 4K TV sets, called "9X".
Today, everybody talks about HD and full HD, i.e. more than 2 million pixels, thus more than a doubling of image quality. The next major step that the big manufacturers want us to take is Super or Ultra High Definition TV, or, as it also called, 4K and 8K.
The question most people ask themselves is: When will there be programmes to watch? That is not as easy to answer. We know that test broadcasts were carried out at the London Olympics and that the FIFA World Cup in Brazil this year will likely be broadcast in 4K. If this big breakthrough comes - be prepared with your wallet!
4K is as much as 8,371,200 pixels (according to the latest specified standard), which in practice means an extremely dense image, giving a razor sharp image. 8K is twice as razor sharp and is referred to as Ultra High

Video meetings in the cloud The technology shift continues
Things are Moving Fast! The famous cloud that everybody is talking about is now a reality and takes over most of IT. First off was Microsoft Office 365 that included Lync. It launched in May this year. Cisco is also following the trend with Meraki, an open cloud service for your network. They have opened up their video conferencing systems for communication with other systems and solutions. Even SONY has a renaissance in video conferencing through launching new video conferencing systems. According to rumour Sony will soon produce something revolutionary together with Microsoft - We hope the rumour is true!

Acano is another player launching a cloud service with no limitations, designed for the next generation of video meetings. Many large organizations are currently looking over their communications capabilities and see great potential in these new open systems that allow audio and video communication with all types of platforms like video conferencing systems, PCs, tablets, mobiles and so on. The key concept for tomorrow's video meetings is completely open and optional equipment, ranging from mobile phones to traditional video conferencing systems.
A simple thing such as Microsoft no longer delivering discs with software and instead moving everything to the Cloud means that lots of IT people need to find new livelihoods.
