STEPPING INTO THE FUTURE
This month is a major milestone for The Kentucky Center, as we take a huge step into the future. As you’ve surely seen, on July 23rd Old Forester’s Paristown Hall opens its doors with an amazing opening night celebration event. This new 2,000 person, standing room venue located in Louisville’s Paristown neighborhood is a historic turning point for this organization and our region. Continuing The Center’s mission to build lifelong relationships with the arts, Old Forester’s Paristown Hall provides a new entertainment destination for national touring bands that have never played in Louisville before, as well as a home for collaborative projects, new works and nontraditional performance experiences by the region’s arts and cultural community. Expanding our ability to attract new artists, new visitors and new energy. The opening of Old Forester’s Paristown Hall is part of the grander vision of The Kentucky Center, to create unique spaces and meaningful experiences that further human connections. Between The Kentucky Center, the Brown Theatre and Old Forester’s Paristown Hall, we now have performance spaces to suit every art form, every artist and every artistic vision. We thank you for joining us this evening and look forward to experiencing these exciting new ventures together.

The Kentucky Center Presents:
AIR NATIONAL GUARD: BAND OF THE SOUTH Tuesday, July 2, 2019 • 7:00pm • The Brown Theatre
The Air National Guard Band of the
South supports the total Air Force and Air National Guard mission in war and peace by inspiring patriotism and fostering a deep appreciation of the rich history and legacy of the Air Force. This is accomplished mainly through professional performances by some of the nation’s best musicians. The band performs as a concert band, ceremonial band, “Space A” and “Sound Barrier” popular music ensembles, “Blue Groove” jazz/big band ensemble, brass quintets and small jazz combo. Air National Bands are the active duty bands’ counterpart in the Air National 6
Guard Band. Headquartered in Knoxville, TN, the Air National Guard Band of the South is the official musical ambassador for the Tennessee Air National Guard. The Band of the South’s mission is two-fold: first, to enhance and lift the morale and espirit de corps of our fellow Airmen stationed either in the United States or abroad; second, to increase the public’s understanding of the importance of air power, the missions and programs of the Air Force and Air National Guard and the bravery, sacrifice and dedication of Airmen across the globe. While performing these missions, members of the Band of the South have performed in almost every state in the union as

Finis “KY” White
Hip-hop as a genre has faced constant
adversity since it began breaking through to the mainstream. Hip-hop sound engineer and Kentucky native Finis “KY” White can certainly say the same for his own life. His story is one of perseverance, with few models of success or music industry resources where he grew up, yet White still managed to turn homelessness and hopelessness into a multi-platinum

career, mixing and engineering records for the likes of Drake, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj, just to name a few. Known these days in Atlanta as “the engineer from Kentucky,” or “KY” for short, White opened Bass Recording Studios in 2016. Since then, he has continued to book top-tier talent, garnered lucrative endorsement deals and, most importantly, continued to inspire young entrepreneurs with his motto, #HardWorkPaysOff.

ABOUT THE HOST: SEAN CANNON
Sean Cannon
With a bluegrass background and knack for extracting stories, Sean Cannon, will join “KY” and delve into how this entrepreneur rose to the top of the hip-hop world. Host and producer of The Guestlist podcast, Cannon first made a name for himself on Louisville airwaves anchoring WFPK’s After Dark. Like White, Cannon grew up in an

impoverished community in Eastern Kentucky but found both solace and direction in life through his love of music. His podcast has featured a wide range of notables like John Carpenter, Wyclef Jean, and Grandmaster Flash. WHAT IS KENTUCKY TO THE WORLD?
K
entucky to the World, a Louisvillebased non-profit, is dedicated to enhancing the intellectual reputation of the state, its people, and its assets through a unique combination of live events and video outreach. We feature and promote extraordinary individuals who are passionate about their Kentucky ties. We do this through our live Republic Bank Foundation Speaker Series, which are featured and streamed on KET, as well as The New Narrative (TNN) program, which distributes videos online and through our community partners.
BACKGROUND Founded in 2012, Kentucky to the World is unique in its singular focus on Kentucky’s intellectual reputation. KTW has hosted 16 public programs that provided free tickets for more than 700 students from 49 schools and organizations, most from underserved areas. Three live speaker programs a year for general audiences are held with Republic Bank Foundation as the 14
title sponsor in collaboration with The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts. Preceding each event is a specially designed program for more than 75 local high school students including an intimate briefing with speakers, supported by title sponsor Lifetime Wealth Strategies. Some of our programs have featured: • Perry Bacon (Louisville), Senior Political Writer ESPN Five Thirty Eight, Louisville, Ky. • Mary T. Meagher (Louisville), Olympic Gold Medalist, Atlanta • Phillip A. Sharp, Ph.D. (Falmouth), Nobel Laureate, Institute Professor, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston • Tracy Drain (Louisville), flight systems engineer, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab, Pasadena, Calif. • Daniel Roth (Louisville), Executive Editor, LinkedIn, New York

“Kentucky to the World is a gift to us all. It expands our story; publishing new headlines and shaping the new narrative of this place we call home. Mining the stories and people that shape our communities, KTW puts our narrative center state for Louisville, the Commonwealth, and the world to celebrate.” - Heather Weston Bell, Senior VP Kentucky Center
KENTUCKY: THE NEW NARRATIVE
COMMUNITY PARTNERS
The New Narrative (TNN) is a Kentucky to the World (KTW) initiative that will share many more stories of men and women who are passionate about their Kentucky ties and whose talents are having an impact around the world. TNN captures video conversations about how their Kentucky roots have enabled these individual’s success. The format— brief documentary-style videos presented at our Community Partners and online— greatly expands KTW’s ability to bring these stories to an even broader and more diverse audience than those who are able to attend KTW live events. When we get more of these amazing stories out into the state and beyond, we will increase by thousands the number of people who will value Kentucky as a rich source of intellectual vitality and creativity. KTW then tells a new story of Kentucky’s intellectual and cultural accomplishments on the world stage. KTW wants Kentucky’s reputation to be driven by the impact of the extraordinary people with ties to Kentucky, rather than by the old stereotypes.
Our network of partners currently include the Frazier History Museum, Kentucky Science Center, the Louisville Omni Hotel, Louisville Tourism, Metro Parks & Recreation Community Centers, Muhammad Ali Center, and The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts.
