SOUND LIBRARY® | May Detective Lindsay Boxer Investigates the Discovery of Severed Heads in a Movie Star’s Garden–And a Vigilante Targeting the City’s Most Despised Criminals

11th Hour | A Women’s Murder Club Mystery James Patterson

The Epic Story of One of History’s Infamous Despots, and an Intimate Portrait of Resilience and Friendship.

Master & God | Lindsey Davis

When millionaire and drug dealer Chaz Smith is gunned down, Detective Lindsay Boxer discovers that the murder weapon was taken from her own department’s evidence locker. Anyone could be the killer—including her closest friends. 11th Hour is the most shocking, most emotional, and most thrilling Women’s Murder Club novel ever.

Lindsey Davis’ Master & God is a vastly entertaining historical novel set in First Century Rome. It is on the one hand a love story between Gaius Vinius Clodianus, a valiant but reluctant member of the Praetorian Guard, and Flavia Lucilla, daughter of a freed slave, and hairdresser to the ladies of the imperial household. It is also the story of the seizure of power by the Emperor Domitian, and his increasing paranoia and madness as he styles himself Master and God.

Inspired by a Screenplay Written by Mario Puzo, Award-Winning Author Ed Falco Continues the Saga of the Corleone Family in this Thrilling, AllNew Prequel to The Godfather

The Family Corleone | Ed Falco

Smart, Page-Turning Women’s Fiction Set in the 1960s, as a Debutant Falls for a Working Class Boy

More Than You Know | Penny Vincenzi

New York, 1933. The crime families of New York have prospered, but with the coming end of Prohibition, a battle is looming that will determine which organizations will rise and which will face a violent end. For Vito Corleone, nothing is more important than his family’s future. The Family Corleone will appeal to the legions of fans who can never get enough of The Godfather, as well as introduce it to a whole new generation.

It all comes down to love or money in a harrowing custody battle over a little girl, set against the glossy backdrop of the magazine and advertising worlds in 1960s London. True to form, Penny Vincenzi introduces a devious cast of characters seemingly plucked from the pages of sixties- and seventies-era magazines, as she deftly maneuvers between the glamorous, moneyed worlds of fashion and advertising, and a heart-wrenching custody battle going on in the courtroom where the social mores of the time are on full display.

They Say Behind Every Great Man is a Woman. Behind Edith Wharton, There Was Anna Bahlmann—Her Governess Turned Literary Secretary, and Her Mothering, Nurturing Friend

The Age of Desire | Jennie Fields Recently returned from the experience of a lifetime in Vienna, Eleanor Burden has no choice but to settle into her expected place in society, marry the man she is supposed to marry, and wait for life to come to her. Hers is a story not unlike that of the other young women she grew up with in 1890s Boston—except for one small difference: Eleanor possesses an unshakable belief that she has advance knowledge of every major historical event to come during her lifetime.

Edith Wharton influenced countless women with her smart, powerful novels, and in The Age of Desire, Jennie Fields turns the tables and looks at two relationships that influenced Wharton: the friendship with her secretary Anna Bahlmann and her affair with journalist Morton Fullerton.

Clare Hits The Road In the Latest Coffeehouse Mystery

A Brew to Kill |

A Coffeehouse Mystery | Cleo Coyle

The First Shining Collection from the Pulitzer Prize-Winning Author

Emerald City | Jennifer Egan

Greenwich Village coffeehouse manager Clare Cosi has developed even more devoted customers with a coffee truck that sells her brew through New York City’s five boroughs. But a fatal hit-and-run—and a coffee bag full of contraband—tells Clare it’s time to catch a killer before she winds up in some seriously hot water…

The drag queen named Vera Reynolds swayed on-stage singing “Falling in Love Again.” And a sixteen-year-old boy lay in Vera’s fire-engulfed apartment… very, very dead. He was a “rent boy,” a sex-for-hire street kid who catered to the tastes of special customers. It was the kind of murder Soho’s Vice Squad saw often. But the influential do-gooder who was a prime suspect in this one made the young boy’s death different—a ticking bomb able to blast open the nasty, secret lives of politicians, judges…and cops.

These eleven masterful stories—the first collection from acclaimed author Jennifer Egan—deal with loneliness and longing, regret and desire. Egan’s characters—models and housewives, bankers and schoolgirls—are united by their search for something outside their own realm of experience. Elegant and poignant, the stories in Emerald City are seamless evocations of self-discovery.

Caveat Emptor

| The Secret Life of an American Art Forger |

Ken Perenyi

Ten years ago, an FBI investigation in conjunction with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York was about to expose a scandal in the art world that would have been front-page news in New York and London. After a trail of fake paintings of astonishing quality led federal agents to art dealers, renowned experts, and the major auction houses, the investigation inexplicably ended, despite an abundance of evidence collected. The case was closed and the FBI file was marked “exempt from public disclosure.” Now that the statute of limitations on these crimes has expired and the case appears hermetically sealed shut by the FBI, this book, Caveat Emptor, is Ken Perenyi’s confession.

Narrated by William Dufris The Maltese Falcon is the definitive masterpiece of the hard-boiled detective genre. It introduces legendary PI Sam Spade, a loner who follows his own code and the rules of the street as he zeros in on his partner’s killer and the famous jewel-encrusted bird. Humphrey Bogart immortalized the tough-guy detective in the classic 1941 film.

Narrated by Francis Matthews A cupboard, a corpse, and a cache of family skeletons...The Ivorys lived in state, in London. All respectable. But when Frances warned her grandmother that “something was going on,” it was the understatement of the decade. Upstairs, in a cupboard, there was soon to be a corpse, and when that came to light, out fell the whole file of well-suppressed family secrets and hatreds.

Narrated by Jonathan Cecil Who would think that an eighteenth-century silver cow-creamer could cause so much trouble? Uncle Tom wants it, Sir Watkyn Bassett has it, and Aunt Dahlia is blackmailing Bertie to steal it.With relations between Bertie and Sir Watkyn being far from cordial (ever since the Boat Race night, when Sir Watkyn fined the young Wooster five pounds for pinching a policeman’s helmet), the situation looks tricky...

Narrated by Jonathan Cecil Having dispatched Aunt Agatha’s young son,Thos, to his seaside Borstal, Bertie Wooster has been summoned to Deverill Hall, Hampshire, to lend a hand with the village entertainment. He has two other tasks on hand: one is to ensure that his old pal Catsmeat’s beloved Gertrude is never left alone with the Byronic Esmond Haddock, the other is to ensure that the Deverill aunts (of whom there are many) take goofy Gussie Fink-Nottle to their respective bosoms. But when Bertie is in charge, an imbroglio is sure to follow.Time to call on Jeeves.

Narrated by Jonathan Cecil Trapped in rural Steeple Bumpleigh, a man less stalwart than Bertie Wooster would probably give way at the knees. For among those present were Florence Craye (to whom Bertie had once been engaged), her new fiancee “Stilton” Cheesewright, who sees Bertie as a snake in the grass, and that biggest blot on the landscape, Edwin the Boy Scout, who is busy doing acts of kindness out of sheer malevolence. All Bertie’s forebodings are fully justified. For in his efforts to oil the wheels of commerce, promote the course of true love and avoid the consequences of a vendetta, he becomes the prey of all and sundry. In fact only Jeeves can save him.

BBC Audiobooks A Small Town in Germany | John le Carré

Ulysses | James Joyce

BBC Radio presents a full-cast dramatization of John le Carre’s gripping tale of espionage and double dealing. Missing: one junior diplomat and 43 of the British Embassy’s most confidential files. The timing is alarmingly significant: with neo-Nazi riots and radical student demonstrations, the threat to Germany’s security is all too apparent.

Starring a Full Cast

This is a dramatized reading of James Joyce’s masterpiece adapted for BBC Radio, starring Stephen Rea and Sinead Cusack. Timelessly evocative, it is far more than the story of Stephen Dedalus’ journey through Dublin. It is a huge, rich portrayal of human life.

Our Miss Brooks: Boynton Blues

Bright Star

Eve Arden stars as the tart-tongued Constance Brooks, a dedicated English teacher at Madison High School. Before and after the bell rings, Miss Brooks turns her thoughts from language to love. Indulging in her perpetual pursuit of bashful biology teacher Philip Boynton (Jeff Chandler), Connie finds herself making his favorite stew, conspiring to make him sick, and pretending to be his mother! These 20 digitally restored and remastered episodes co-star Gale Gordon as the blustery, autocratic Osgood Conklin; Richard Crenna as the ever-exuberant Walter Denton; and, Jane Morgan as absent-minded landlady Mrs. Davis.

Bright Star chronicles the happenings at the offices of The Hillsdale Morning Star, a small town newspaper owned and edited by Susan Armstrong. Played by Irene Dunne as a no‑nonsense professional, Susan nevertheless has a sweet spot for her star reporter. George Harvey, played by Fred MacMurray as an energetic and competitive journalist, challenges, bothers, and bewilders his boss at every turn. Personal chemistry charges the plotlines, with MacMurray and Dunne bouncing off each other like a role-reversed Tracy and Hepburn.

The Life of Riley: My Head is Made Up!

The Lone Ranger: Iron Horse

William Bendix is back as Brooklyn expatriate and aircraft riveter Chester A. Riley. This well-meaning, if lunk-headed, family man is fiercely loyal, profoundly loving, and impossibly stubborn. Riley struggles to get ahead at work, struggles to be a role model for his son and struggles to read the tea leaves of his daughter’s love life—all while his wife Peg (Paula Winslowe) struggles to talk some sense in to him. Featuring the voice stylings of John Brown as both neighbor Gillis (the wisecracking sidekick offering staggeringly ill-advised counsel), and the local undertaker Digger O’Dell (who adds a wry gallows humor to the proceedings).

The masked rider of the plains declares himself a defender of the rails in 20 digitally restored and remastered adventures! There are those who would stop at nothing to slow down the construction of the trans-continental railroad. The badly informed and the badly intentioned set fires, rob trains, kidnap the vulnerable, and murder the innocent, all while plotting even grander schemes…like blasting dams and assassinating the President of the United States! But, thanks to The Lone Ranger’s knowledge of Morse Code, his daring rescues, and his mastery of the art of disguise…thanks to the devotion of Tonto, and the unparalleled prowess of the great horse Silver, the “iron horse” will ride!

hen Temple Grandin was born, her parents knew that she was different. As a baby, she was silent and unresponsive; as a toddler, she threw violent temper tantrums but never spoke a word. It wasn’t until years later that she was diagnosed with autism, a brain disorder that makes communication difficult. Temple’s father wanted to put her into a mental institution. But her mother believed in her, and so Temple went to school instead. Today, Dr. Temple Grandin is a brilliant scientist and professor of animal science at Colorado State University. Her world-changing career has revolutionized the livestock industry—each year, half the cattle in the United States are handled in cruelty-free facilities she has designed. She is also a passionate advocate for autism, using her experience to prove that people with this disorder can have great lives. To achieve this unprecedented success, Temple used one of the strengths of autism: she thinks visually, the same way animals do. Because she thinks in pictures, she can see the world as a cow, or a dog, or a pig might see it. And so she knows that animals raised for food deserve good lives and should be treated with respect. Now she gives them a voice. Temple has more than earned respect for herself, too, but things weren’t always so easy . . . In this compelling biography, the author Sy Montgomery takes us inside Temple Grandin’s extraordinary mind and opens the door to a broader understanding of autism.

Blood is shed in Buckingham Palace, and only sixteen-year-old Princess Eliza manages to escape. Determined to kill the man who destroyed her family, Eliza joins the enemy forces in disguise...

GRANDIN

eyer

y Montgomery is an author, naturalist, and scriptwriter who has written for both adults and children about animals all around the world. From tarantulas in French Guiana, to pink dolphins in the Amazon, to her friend the pig, Christopher Hogwood, in her barn, animals are among her closest friends and wisest teachers. Sy’s sixteen books have won many awards, including the Sibert Medal for children’s nonfiction for Kakapo Rescue; the American Society for the Protection of Animals’ Henry Bergh Award for Quest for the Tree Kangaroo; and a lifetime achievement award from the Massachusetts Society for the Protection of Animals. Sy has followed and admired Temple Grandin’s humane work for many years. To research this book, Sy visited Temple at her home and university in Ft. Collins, Colorado; interviewed friends from Temple’s childhood; visited her elementary school, high school, and college; and even climbed up some of Temple’s secret passageways to emerge through the doors that gave Temple courage when she needed it most. Like Temple, Sy counts cows among her favorite animals.

“I’ve got the nervous system of a prey animal,” Temple explains. Her senses are ratcheted up—attuned to sounds and details that humans don’t notice but animals do. She is not blinded to the sensory richness of the world by her ideas about what she expects to see, hear, smell, and feel. Her senses are constantly bringing her information, and she does not screen any of it out. During the terrible, desperate days when she was a teenager, like a prey animal, she was “always looking for danger.” This constant state of high-alert is helpful to deer or horses or cattle, who must constantly scan for predators. But to a teenage girl it was torture. Back then, Temple feared she would go mad. She was afraid it would never end. What could rescue her from a lifetime of uncontrollable, unending panic? The remedy she craved came in the summer of her junior year of high school. It wasn’t a pill or an operation; it didn’t come from a psychologist or psychologist, from a course or a self-help group. No, it came from a stockyard. “Animals,” she says, “saved me.”

hen Temple Grandin was born, her parents knew that she was different.
