AUDREY NGUYEN INTERIOR DESIGN PORTFOLIO

ABOUT ME

“Form follows function - that has been misunderstood. Form and function should be one, joined in a spiritual union. -Frank Lloyd Wright

I am a sustainable interior designer, dedicated to finding a balance between aesthetics, functionality, and choices that reduce the environmental impact of design. My vision and passion for progressive design fuses creative and technical problem solving with a perspective deeply rooted in and inspired by nature. I believe thoughtful design strategies have the power to shape the human experience by allowing end-users a connection to nature and their role in a larger, integrated system.

HOSPITALITY DESIGN

LoCol Hotel & Restaurant The conversion of a late 1800’s Victorian home into a boutique hotel in Denver’s Lower Highlands (LoHi) district. RESIDENTIAL

Tawanda Residence The remodel of a 2695 sq. ft. penthouse loft for a middle-aged couple that recently moved to NYC from Zimbabwe. The loft is located on the fifth floor of a mixed-use, rehabilitated industrial warehouse conversion in New York City’s old Gansevoort Market Historic district, which overlooks Highline Park. AutoCAD | Revit | InDesign | Photoshop

PERSPECTIVES

15

FLOOR PLAN / CONCEPT

Much like water, the journey of the Tawandas has required adaption. As one moves through the space that is the Tawanda home, he or she can sense a transformation and cohesion between cultures, old and new. Inspiration for style and color schemes come from the wild neutrals that characterize the wildlife, landscape, and style of Zimbabwe. A contemporary twist fuses the culture of their home country and new home.

OFFICE DESIGN

Burton Rocky Mountain Division The design of Burton’s Rocky Mountain office in the Atrium I Office Building, located in Golden, CO. This Type II-B three story, traditional brick clad building features a central open air atrium in the heart of the Denver Technology Center corporate complex. Revit | InDesign

PROGRAMMATIC STATEMENTS

21

FUNCTION Since the company is consistently growing, the design should allow workspaces to transform in the moment and evolve over time.

ECONOMY Since the company will budget for recreational activities in the office, the space plan should establish economical finished and furnished spaces.

FORM Since the company boasts a casual and flexible company culture, the design should incorporate recreational areas, in addition to work spaces.

TIME Since the exact growth of each department is uncertain, the space plan should couple departments that might have offsetting growth.

RENDERINGS

The design incorporates a beautiful and ancient wall type made from “rammed earth, installed using modern construction methods to fit the modern, urban setting. Rammed earth is a sustainable material that uses local, widely available materials, such as soil, dirt, and clay. The initial decision to use rammed earth informed the entire project process from that point forward, and contributes to the integration of the space into the landscape and the building as a teaching tool.
