THE wife of a champion Irish yachtsman who recently lost his battle with Alzheimer’s has called for greater supports for those diagnosed at a young age. Joe English, who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer’s in 2007, passed away this November at the age of 58. Joe’s wife April said that information and resources available to those under the age of 65 were scarce when she and Joe were looking extra help. “It was very hard to find out what services were available. Just because we’re that bit younger- it’s discriminatory against us. It really needs to be looked at everywhere, this over 65s lark.” ■ See Page 6 for more.
