Farmer airlifted to CUH ■ RONAN BAGNALL AN elderly farmer was airlifted to hospital yesterday following a farm accident outside Macroom. The man, in his 70s, was working on the f amily farm with his son in Carrigadrohid shortly before 7pm when he suf fered serious injuries in an incident with a bull. It’s understood the bull kicked a gate when the man was putting it into a pen. The gate then struck the farmer causing injuries. The Ambulance Service and a West Cork Rapid Response vehicle arrived on the scene and a decision was made to airlift the man to Cork University Hospital (CUH). The helicopter landed at Macroom GAA Club at 7pm and the man was airlifted to CUH at 7.06pm. The helicopter landed at the SMA House grounds in Wilton and the man was then transported to CUH by ambulance. It is understood he suffered internal injuries and was in a serious condition. ■ See Page 2.

The Pouladuff teen, who wowed judges and audiences on The Voice UK earlier this year, took a flight back to Cork Airport at 7.30pm last night – just 14 hours before sitting her first exam. She was among 6,300 Leaving Certificate students in Cork starting their exams today, while a further 6,900 pupils began their Junior Certificate. stress. “She’s ready to go but she’s a bit nervous because she has missed about four months study with The Voice, as we were over and back. Claudia will return to London in just two weeks to perform at a red carpet event in London’s exclusive Café de Paris – the only contestant from The Voice UK who was asked to do so. Afterwards, she is jetting off to Las Vegas to get experience recording. For now though, all eyes are fixed on the next two weeks with fingers crossed that poet John Montague appears on tomorrow’s English Paper Two. ■ See Pages 2, 3 and 18.
