They’re not there to put headgear on and get punched in the face.” Christina, from Macroom who at 19 years of age is a Te a m I r e l a n d E u r o p e a n medallist said that she felt the need to speak out having seen the video shared on Facebook by friends in the boxing world. “It’s a shame that a fighter of his standing thinks that he can say what he wants.” Continued on page 4.

Figures released to Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin, following a parliamentary question, have revealed that the number of medical cards for over 70s in Cork has fallen from 40,155 to 39,497 in a 12month period from April 31, 2014 to April 31 this year. Mr Martin described it as the “latest betrayal of older people”.
■ Ronan Bagnall Nationally, 16,356 over 70s cards have been lost. The breakdown for Cork is by HSE region, which includes a reduction of 919 cards in Cork South Lee, 190 in Cork North Lee, 243 in West Cork and 306 in North Cork. Deputy Martin said: “This is a huge level of cuts in the space of just a year, particularly given that it follows two years of sustained cuts to medical cards. “The Government announced a cull of medical cards in 2013. These latest figure show it’s having a real impact on people’s lives in Cork community.” Continued on page 4.
