Floods: Pay the people now THE ESB should admit liability for the devastating November 2009 flooding of Cork and begin compensating homeowners and businesses who suffered hundreds of thousands of euros in damage as a result of the event. The 15-year-old was questioned yesterday in Togher Garda Station in relation to the fire at the shop on Maryborough Hill on Saturday night. He was released without charge and a file is being prepared for the DPP and National Juvenile Office. It is believed that bins outside the shop were set on fire which caused the devastating fire. Gardaí expect to interview several more teens in connection with the incident in the next few days as Supt Charlie Barry said they were aware that large numbers of teens from across the city gather in the Mangala Woods area

■ Audrey Ellard Walsh of Douglas where they have responded to complaints of underage drinking. He said they are concentrating extra garda resources in that area. However, local Cllr Deirdre Forde said today that she will be asking Supt Barry about Garda resourcing in the area at the next JPC meeting. “Anti-social behaviour is a big problem all over and I’ve always taken the line that it can’t be tolerated. “I must say that when previous trouble has occurred in the area it was dealt with by Gardaí but we’ve got to make sure that we have enough resources to ensure that Gardaí are adequately resourced. While Cllr Forde states that she hopes Saturday night’s incident was an isolated one, she said the issue of anti-social behaviour needs to be addressed. “Business is tough enough in this climate without worrying about anti-social behaviour.”
