“WE are hoping to bring Jason home at Christmas” – those were the words of the relieved mother of a Corkman who was seriously injured when punched on a night out in Australia. Jason Cierans, a 29-year-old construction worker from Mount Nebo Avenue, has been told by medics in Australia that he is expected to make a full recovery and has been given clearance to fly home. However, his full recovery could take up to two years. He suffered a serious head Jason Cierans. injury when he was punched in an incident at Bondi Junction on August 22. Now, his delighted mum Stephanie is planning to remain in Australia with him until Christmas, with the aim of coming home to Cork together for the festive season. She said: “We are walking on air – this is just fabulous. To get him from death’s door to here is just fantastic. We want to thank the people of Cork for all their support and hopefully we will be seeing them at Christmas.” His dad Declan and brother Jamie are returning to Cork sooner. Jason’s aunt Fidelma Casey said fundraising has now been stopped because he will not require any further funds. A rock n roll bingo night planned for the Commons Inn on November 6 has been cancelled. An Argentinean man has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Jason and is due back in court next Thursday.
