Buses to ease Mahon traffic MAHON bus users are set for a boost as Bus Éireann plans to ease commuter woes by doubling the frequency of services next year, writes KEVIN O’NEILL. At peak times, motorists and commuters have complained of hour-long delays between the city and the area, where thousands are employed. Martin Walsh, regional manager for Bus Éireann Cork, said that double-decker buses have been deployed to handle the increased volume of customers using rush-hour services, and that further measures, such as more frequent services, are proposed for next year, pending National Transport Authority approval. He added, though, that traffic congestion is causing havoc for private commuters and bus users alike. ■ See page 13.

THE death of a mother and daughter in a tragic car crash just three days before Christmas has numbed the north Cork areas of Kilworth and Fermoy.

Louise Clancy: Died in crash near Fermoy.

Geraldine Clancy, 58, and her daughter Louise, 22, were killed in a two car accident outside Fermoy yesterday. The mum and daughter, members of a dairy farming family in the townland of Leitrim, outside Kilworth, had planned a shopping trip in Fermoy but tragedy struck on the

■ Audrey Ellard Walsh Fermoy-Lismore Road, between Kilworth and Ballyduff. Geraldine was mar ried to dairy farmer, Noel Clancy, and the couple had three children. Noel was among the first on the scene after he arrived with his tractor to help after the accident, only to discover who the victims were when he arrived. Louise, was a University College Cork student, studying English and Sociology. A past pupil of Loreto, Fermoy she was remembered today as friendly, kind, helpful and funny. ■ Continued on Page 2.
