■ PADRAIG HOARE, ALAN HEALY and AUDREY ELLARD WALSH
A WOMAN and her two children had to be rescued from their trapped car in rising flood waters as Cork felt the full force of Storm Frank last night. The rescue in Glanmire was just one of a number of incidents that saw the combined forces of Cork city and county emergency personnel rescue people trapped in cars in multiple locations as well as taking families from their homes by boat to safety. The city was moving this morning but huge parts of the county remained impassable with Midleton and Glanmire the worst hit, with the Midleton Park Hotel putting up 14 families who could not get into their homes. It was a night of “utter mayhem and devastation” across the county with fire services describing it as something they would not “forget for a long time”. Ballyvolane, Passage West, Monkstown and Carrigaline were also badly hit by floods. ■ Continued on Page two.
