Dramatic sea rescue One found at dawn along with wreckage
First dog fouling fine in seven years CORK City Council has issued its first fine for dog fouling in seven years, amid claims that the streets have become littered with faeces. The local authority has been criticised for failing to prosecute those who repeatedly breach dog fouling legislation. Blackpool councillor, Kenneth O’Flynn, said he recently counted 100 different samples of dog poop on a single street in the city. ■ See Page 3.

The four-person crew of the Dublin-based Rescue 116 had been providing back-up to Sligobased colleagues in an early morning medical evacuation when contact was lost with the R116 crew shortly after 1am. One crew member was recovered in a critical condition shortly before 8am while the search continued for the other three. Wreckage was also spotted near the last known location of the helicopter. The aircraft’s last reported location was just west of Black Rock lighthouse, some 12 miles west of the Mullet peninsula. A widescale search mission was assembled in the area involving Search and Rescue Helicopters from Sligo and Shannon, the Air Corps Casa Maritime Patrol Aircraft and Ballyglass and Achill all-weather lifeboats. Five local fishing vessels also dashed to the scene. In a statement issued this morning, the Coast Guard explained that R116 had been providing support to the other helicopter when contact was lost. ■ Continued on Page 2.
