PAPER PLANE P
aper Plane is a 1970s inspired bar specializing in cocktails and handcrafted drinks. The list of drinks is elaborate and unique. Most noticeably, the atmosphere is different than that of your local “bar scene”. The veiled entranceway and secluded door make the experience feel more like a speakeasy. The restaurant itself is quite small and features only a few booths, which I would suggest if you’re there for a leisurely meal with a group of friends. Otherwise, grab a seat at the bar and get a front row view of the mixologist’s expert artistry. Paul Calvert, owner and bartender some nights, has transformed this small space into something out of a classy seventies movie. The menu features items such as, a summer salad, cheese selections, trout, and buttermilk panna cotta. If you’re looking for an exclusive and swanky new place to visit for a few cocktails or for dinner service, Paper Plane will not disappoint.

DOWN BY THE CHATTAHOOCHEE
T
ucked away next to Atlanta’s highway 75 lies a pristine, calm oasis of nature. While the concealed entranceway keeps this place a locals-only spot, the summertime draws the crowds into the icy water and sandy beaches of the Chattahoochee; a place only sought after in the rural areas of Georgia. Yet here it is, right in our backyards. The expanse is part of the National Recreation Area and is the only of it’s kind here in the city.
Take a short drive and stop to take in a fresh breath of air and forget about the husle and bustle of everyday life. Or grab some friends, pile in, and tube down the “hooch”, either way this park brings us back to nature and is a remider of unrefined beauty right here in Atlanta.

EAT ME SPEAK ME

arrett Stieber, Atlanta chef and pop-up entrpreneuer has started a drinking and dining experience all it’s own. By sourcing local food and prepairing a limited menu, he is able to give the intimate feeling of a supper club. Eat Me Speak Me is a pop-up held out of Gato Bizco Cafe, a breakfast restaurant in Candler Park. Now serving Friday through Sunday night with a speak easy featured every Sunday night after dinner service. Just ask discretly, and you’ll be given directions to where you can find the most unique cocktails, served up by some of the most talented bartenders in the city. The entire experience is both exciting and invigorating. Because the restaurant is small and modest on seats, make sure to reserve a seat ahead or grab a seat at the bar and get a first hand look at the kitchen and how Stieber masterfully creates each plate.

arrett Stieber’s culinary career started when he was 15 years old. Working under knowledgable chefs and in restaurants such as, Holeman & Finch, Abattoir, and Empire State South under Ryan Smith, with whom he worked as butcher and charcutier for two and a half years. His knowledge of food and connections are endless.
He claims, “I cook food the way I want to cook it. I build my clientele around that, instead of playing it safe. I source my entire menu locally and change it every weekend of service, unlike a lot of restaurants that say they source locally but still use a lot of commodity stuff because they’re so big they have to. I do everything from scratch without any staff to help with prep. And I run a real speakeasy.

All those things are one of a kind in Atlanta.” His most recent adventure was cooking a dinner by himself at a farm without a kitchen. He prepaired the food over an open fire on a homemade grill he created with cinder blocks and a metal bed frame. Having that turn out well, with people enjoying the food, and remaining happy, was a huge achievement for Steiber. This goes to show how extensive his talents reach across Atlanta.

Steiber has been featured in Atlanta magazine and their online blog, Covered Dish, the AJC, Creative Loafing, Zagat Atlanta 30 under 30, Zagat National 10 Southern Chefs to Watch, Eater Young Guns Short List, and the list goes on. His impact on the Atlanta food scene pushes the envelope. He is on a different level of cooking that is seperates him from the other chefs and restaurants in the city of Atlanta.
