Only keep a source's’ name out of your work if they are in danger of being hurt or have information that cannot be obtained elsewhere
Avoid stereotypes ○

Don’t let any preconceived notions affect your work
NEVER PLAGARIZE!!!
Minimize Harm ●
Show compassion for those affected by news coverage ○

Avoid indulging in lurid curiosity ○
●
Consider a subject’s beliefs, culture, and experiences when writing a story Remember too much curiosity killed the cat!
Consider the effects of your work in a publication ○
Will it affect your image? The community’s image? The publication’s image?
Act Independently ● ● ●
Avoid conflicts of interest whether they are real or perceived Don’t accept any favor, gifts, or anything that may damage your credibility Be wary of sources offering you money or favors for news coverage ○

Don’t pay for access to news, go to other outside sources if this is the case
Deny special treatment to advertisers, sponsors, etc. ○
Don’t let their pressure influence your coverage
Be Accountable and Transparent Being a journalist means taking responsibility for your work and being able to clearly explain your decisions to the public. You should: ●
Explain ethical choices and processes to the public ○

Encourage dialogue with the public about the journalistic practices, coverage, and news content
Respond quickly to questions about accuracy and clarity Acknowledge mistakes and correct them quickly Expose unethical practices in journalism ○
