- Sri Aurobindo AURO University is inspired by the vision and teachings of Sri Aurobindo and The Divine Mother. It is a progressive center for Integral and Transformational learning for future leaders; where mind, body and spirit are aligned and prepared to embark on a journey of life long enrichment for both, the individual and the community. We, at AURO emphasize on experiential and holistic learning. Integral Education considers student as a growing soul and helps him to bring out all that is best, most powerful, most innate and living in his nature. It helps the individual develop all facets of his personality and awaken his latent possibilities so that he acquires
A strong supple, healthy, beautiful body A sensitive, emotionally refined, energetic personality A wide ranging, lively intelligence and will The subtler spiritual qualities that unify and harmonize the being around his inmost Truth or Soul
Sri Aurobindo outlined three fundamental principles of Integral Education. The first is that, “Nothing can be taught.” He indicated that the proper role of educator is not to instruct or to impart knowledge to the students, but rather to help and guide the student in acquiring knowledge for himself or herself. The second principle is that, “the mind has to be consulted in its own growth.” This means, not to impose knowledge on the student, nor arrange for the student to develop particular qualities, capacities, ideas, or prearranged career. Each individual has a unique dharma, a particular Divine-given talent and duty, and it is the educator’s responsibility to help the student identify these innate interests, predispositions, and abilities and to develop and perfect them. The third principle is, “to work from the near to far.” Educationists should take into consideration individual students past development that shapes his individual nature, his heredity, his ethnic customs, his nationality and all the factors that develop his outer nature. When this basis is established, it is easier and safer for the individual to reach out and expand the circle of these first established moorings. Thus, our aim at AURO is to assist the students in the growth of his soul so that they are able to strengthen themselves and give their best in making himself perfect instrument for the noble use. Thoughts on Culture of Administration The key element that is essential for any university to be successful is a set of effective administrators. For this to happen, the administrators must have certain characteristics the staff and students look for each and every day. Being knowledgeable, visible presence, and supportive as a team member is fundamental to the position. This all begins through communication and leading by example. The administrator must communicate to the staff that all students can learn and can experience success. It should be reinforced that success is built on the staff working together, sharing ideas, and helping students to believe in their abilities. I see my basic role of an administrator as two-fold. First, it is essential to see the potential in all and the willingness to work for the benefit of each by consistently creating opportunities for individual and group growth. Appreciating good work, effort and loyalty to our profession, I value and understand each person as unique in his own right. Secondly, all efforts should be focused on developing and maintaining an atmosphere to promote student achievement.
Dr. Kamlesh Misra, Provost
I try each day to model good beliefs and values that are consistent with the university’s philosophy and our society. Whether it is welcoming a student to the University in the morning or listening to a problem they might have, I am there for support or to help them find the answer. Administrators, who create a caring, supportive environment, will find teachers teaching and students achieving. The following are the essential components of my administrative philosophy. Vision and Leadership The administrators of a university must provide the vision and leadership to lead the institution forward. It is my role to see what is happening both in education and in technology and to craft a vision for how the institution will use technology to meet its education goals. Leadership consists of painting pictures of the future for the people of the institution, listening to responses, and helping them choose which pictures are the best for the institution. Active Participation and Empowerment As a faculty member, I try hard to engage my students so that they become active participants in their own education. I believe we all learn best when we are involved in the learning process. As an administrator, I see myself as a teacher of a different kind. I teach my staff how to work effectively and efficiently. When I empower my staff to take charge of their own work, they learn how to work better than if I simply tell them how to do it. Team Work and Partnerships I believe in the power of teams and partnerships. Teams and partnerships bring the collective wisdom of the group to bear on a problem. When synergy is present, creative solutions emerge. As a faculty member, I teach my students how to work in teams. As an administrator I facilitate teamwork in my staff and develop partnerships with other departments. Breaking down barriers to cooperation is one of the hardest, yet most rewarding, things that I do. Communication As an administrator, I believe that it is important to communicate well with many constituents. Knowledge is power, and sharing knowledge empowers many people, strengthening the institution. Encouragement, Recognition, and Reward An institution's strength is in the strength of the people that work for it. Even the best administration cannot succeed without the support of the faculty, staff, and students that make up the institution. I encourage people to do their best, recognize their accomplishments, and provide rewards within the constraints of my budget. Technology as a Tool Technology should be a tool to enhance the teaching and learning experience. We should never invest in technology for its own sake. Rather we should choose our technology as wisely as we can and use it well to support our educational goals. Integrity I approach my goals with integrity as my foundation. I make my administrative decisions based on principles in order that I treat people as fairly as possible. I value fiscal responsibility highly, for as an administrator I am responsible to the management to treat their investment wisely. I tell the truth so that people will trust me even if they disagree with me.
