A Place to Connect, Learn and Lead

In this issue we are looking back through the archives of the Austin Apartment Association and reflecting on where we are now. This edition of WINDOW focuses on the spaces and places and how they have changed in our community and industry over the 60 years.

The Austin Apartment Association offices - while a standard office location for the organization to operate - have always been more than just cubicles, copiers, and stationery. Some of the former locations have since been replaced by apartment buildings or other retail. However, some remain. Check out the photos shared here of the AAA headquarters over the decades.

AAA first occupied a small suite for an Executive Director and a secretary, which was likely utilized for catching up with the Executive or gathering before heading to City Hall for a meeting. Fast forward, to several years later, “AAA was conveniently officing on West 6th, where Board meetings would begin at headquarters and ‘end’ at Donn’s Depot,” remembers an AAA Past President.

Starting from a small suite at Riverside Drive and Congress, our headquarters has evolved and relocated to North Burnet Road, serving the Association for over 10 years. Surprisingly, still considered a “Central Austin” location.

Now, more than ever, the headquarters are designed for and by our members. It is an open opportunity to stop by between sales calls to hop on a Zoom meeting, meet with members and staff, and to connect.

While AAA’s space has expanded, so have the ways in which it benefits the members. The Association now hosts nearly 50 education programs annually, 10 board meetings, and hundreds of other meetings either virtually, hybrid or in person.

This expansion in the ways in which it will serve the members of the Association will continue into 2024 - our 60th year! Presidents from decades ago likely would never imagine the innovative ways that we now utilize our space in modern day. As we stand on the brink of a new era, we’re excited to unveil a state-of-the-art Training Room, poised to redefine the possibilities. The audio-visual upgrades will expand AAA’s education to a hybrid learning environment –so members in the far reaches of the metro, who never visit our location and in-person seminars, will now have access to educational content more than ever.

Our physical space is truly another representation of how the organization has grown, strengthened, and adapted over the years
