Area athletes set a high bar This last year saw many area athletes perform at their highest level on the biggest stages of high school athletics. Three area teams played in state championship games and several individual athletes reached the state level as well. The Packer boys basketball team had a historic run as it rattled off 30 straight wins, before falling to No. 1-ranked DeLaSalle in the state title game. The Blooming Prairie softball team finally came through with a state title in its fourth try and the Grand Meadow foot-

ball team used a balanced roster to get to the state title game, where it fell short, losing to Clinton-GracevilleBeardsley. The Packer gymnasts also had a huge year as they finished third and set a new Class ‘A’ record in the state floor exercise. Individually, Austin’s Sela Fadness was the top gymnast in Class ‘A’ as she won the allaround competition. The Packer dance team kept
its strong tradition alive as it took fourth in the high kick division in its 11th straight state meet appearance. The Packers also placed athletes at the state meets in girls cross country, girls and boys swimming and diving, and boys and girls track and field. Whatever area teams have in store for us next season, it will be very difficult for them to match what last year’s teams accomplished. This yearbook will provide a look back at all of the highlights and top quotes of the most recent high school sports season.
