BUSINESS REVIEW Name of the business: Medicap Pharmacy Owner(s) of the business: Jon Engelhardt R.Ph. Please provide a brief history of the company: We opened in 1997 with our 1,500 Sq ft building at our current location, which is the location of the old R & F Bike Shoppe. Jon and Rose Tamke were the original two employees. In 2003 we acquired the adjacent property and expanded to our current 2700 sq ft building, adding a larger consultation office, a compounding lab, and additional work area, especially for our long term care business. Kaye Hansen, Pharm D, joined our team in 2003, and Chris Meyer Pharm D came on full time in 2008.
How many employees do you have? We have 11 full time employees, consisting of 3 pharmacists, 4 Pharmacy technicians, 1 office manager, 2 customer service and 1 delivery person. We are very proud that our average tenure for all employees is 10 years, and we try to operate as a family.
The Business Review is a weekly feature produced by the Austin Daily Herald advertising department. For more information, call 507-434-2225
Tell us a little about your business. What are your specialties? We feel proud of the services we give for traditional pharmacy services, but we offer much more than that. We have a large compounding lab which allows us to prepare unique preparations for a variety of needs, including women’s health, pain preparations, and e.g. preparing a liquid form of a med that is not manufactured by the drug company in that form, as well as most anything a prescriber can imagine. We have a professional consultation office which we use for medication therapy management as well as for many vaccinations given here e.g. influenza, pneumonia, tetanus, etc. We have free local delivery.
What are some of the new things your business is doing? What are you most proud to tell customers, and why? We a re ve r y p ro u d o f our In Home Compliance Packaging. This provides weekly delivery of a weeks supply of your medications in a convenient
punch out package, wherein all of your meds for that time of day are packaged in one punch out “bubble”. No more confusion – we take care of that!! We also have started a “Time My Meds” program, wherein we synchronize the filling of your meds so that they can all be picked up at one time, e.g. once a month or in some cases maybe even once every 3 months! We also have an employee who is bilingual for our Hispanic clientele! We were voted Best Phar macy in 2015.
What sets you apart from other companies and why? 1st – we are NOT a big box one stop open 24/7/365 mega chain. We are locally owned and operated in our small
health care only neighborhood store. Given our hours and our full time staff our patients can be reasonably sure to find the staff they want to see here most of the time. You can park right by our front door and the walk is about 10 feet to the pharmacy. We take pride that our small size makes it easy to bring new offerings to the public. In addition to the above, we were the 1st to offer a drive up window, medication flavoring, fitting of diabetic shoes, a free kids vitamin program, etc. What are your goals for the upcoming year? We w i l l b e l a u n ch i n g travel vaccinations, as well as travel health products, for clients traveling out of the country. Our overarching goal is to make you glad you chose us for your pharmacy. What is your address? 1109 W Oakland Ave (in between Mcdonalds, Kwik Trip, and Dairy Queen!) What is your website? www.medicap.com/austin Any other infor mation that would be helpful to know? Our slogan is “We’ll always make time for you”. We attempt to achieve that goal every day. We are proud of our small size, and as such we know most of our
patients by name and feel strongly about having an ongoing relationship in order for our patients to maximize the value and efficiency of their medication therapy.
