Ishaq Fahim Brings South Asian presence In poster Art At SXSW 2023

Hailing from roots in Pakistan on his dad’s side and Mexico from his mom’s, Fahim is a creative at heart who expresses himself in different ways at different times.

He works with editors and content design, is a musician and a poster artist. He had his poster design hat on at SXSW.

“I started doing design work mostly for myself—self taught, very much influenced by my father, a self starter,” Fahim said.

Fahim’s father, an electrical engineer by profession, hails from a village near Gujrat, an industrial city close to Lahore in Pakistan.

Fahim who was born in the U.S.

That exposure to technical knowledge influences his poster art. Fahim loves color and shapes and how they relate to each other.

Fahim’s poster design journey began when his music band was going to play at an event.

“I started doing that for myself and when my friends saw it, they were like, hey, can you make one for our band? I was like, sure,” Fahim said.

Word got out and he started receiving orders for flyers.

At the same time he branched out into art prints right before Covid-19 pandemic hit Austin.

His art found a creative outlet when Austin FC commissioned local artists including Fahim to design posters for each of their home games.

When asked what the future holds, Fahim remained realistic.

“So in a way, I don’t know what the future looks like, but I kind of just set the right intention and work diligently and then expect to end up where I’m supposed to, in a way and that’s kind of like taking me there,” he said.
