Austin Symphony Orchestra / 2013–2014
let’s go
out! As one who cherishes the unique experience of attending an orchestral concert, I am inspired by the efforts of those on stage who make the music come alive and those of the composers who so enrich my ears and heart. The musicians of the Austin Symphony and I want to make your concert experience an unforgettable one. For the 2013–2014 season, Dell Hall will resonate with the magnificent sounds of Wagner, Verdi, and Richard Strauss, all of whom celebrate significant anniversaries. A unique concert devoted to Aaron Copland and his influence on Mexican composers will include a special screening of a film accompanied by the ASO. A beloved chamber work by Brahms dressed in new clothes by a modern master (Arnold Schoenberg), a new work based on meteoric activity, a monumental tone poem whose presence in 2001: A Space Odyssey gave it superstardom, a Mozart piano concerto performed by one of the participants at President Obama’s first inauguration —these are just some of the musical happenings that await you. We invite you to join our music-loving couple pictured within whose concert experience is about to unfold!

The four musicians in “Classical Mystery Tour” look and sound just like The Beatles, but “Classical Mystery Tour” is more than just a rock concert. The full show presents some 30 Beatles tunes sung, played and performed exactly as they were written. Hear “Penny Lane” with a live trumpet section; experience the beauty of “Yesterday” with an acoustic guitar and string quartet; enjoy the rock/classical blend on the hard edged “I Am the Walrus.” From early Beatles music on through the solo years, “Classical Mystery Tour” is the best of The Beatles like you‘ve never heard them: totally live!
