Do you care for someone with disability, mental illness, a medical condition, or who is frail due to age? More than 700,000 Victorians look after a family member, partner or friend, helping them with their day-to-day living.

Carer Gateway is a free national service connecting carers to local support. We can help carers get the assistance they need with free counselling, targeted financial packages, respite, carer coaching, advice and more. Carer Gateway can find the supports that are right for you.

AGAPI Care Inc.

AGAPI Care Inc. (AGAPI Care) was established in 1987 by a group of Greek-Australian parents who were unwavering in their belief that their children with a disability were entitled to the same access to programs and services as other members of the community without prejudice or disadvantage. Faced with language and cultural barriers that hindered access to mainstream services for their children, the families created a not-for-profit organisation, whose purpose was to provide information and support services, including advocacy and referrals, to people with a disability of Greek heritage and their families. In response to the needs of the community, AGAPI Care quickly extended its services to include all people with a disability. AGAPI Care empowers and supports people with disabilities to be valued members of their community. It promotes one community equal in every way, regardless of race, beliefs, background, religion, and gender. Talk to them at site P12.

Australian Carers Guide

The Australian Carers Guide is this country’s first and only publication specifically created for our informal primary carers like those caring for an ageing parent, spouse or elderly loved one. It is full of practical information to support carers along their journey plus content aimed at improving the wellbeing of carers. It also includes a comprehensive list service providers who can offer practical hands-on assistance. There is a ‘Time Out’ section and some healthy recipes. Contributors are experts in their respective field and provide unique insights, helpful perspectives and creative solutions to common challenges carers face. The Australian Carers Guide produces a separate guide for all five states and publishes new editions four times a year. Victoria’s Portable Long Service Benefits Scheme ensures eligible workers in the community services, contract cleaning and security industries can build up long service entitlements based on service to the industry as a whole, rather than years with a single employer. The Portable Long Service Authority was created to administer the scheme.

Portable long service means workers accrue long service benefits for all their years in a single industry, rather than with a single employer.
