Glenn Morgan’s sense of humour, integrity and his masterful skill as a storyteller are always present in his works. The honesty and openness in his bright, bustling sculptures immediately engage the viewer and draw us in for a closer look. This exhibition presents a poignant and personal reflection of the unique challenges and experiences faced by the artist, and the wider community, over the past year. “2020 was a very hard year in so many ways but for an artist we had a lot of extra time in the shed (studio). There was more time to think of and develop ideas without much distraction. During this time, I found that my ideas came to me in a fluid manner, covering many different themes such as trucks and vans on the Geelong highway, the importance of family and friends and our little dog Jessie, horse racing in Warrnambool and horse racing in general, football and of course COVID-19 itself. This may appear to be a random group of topics but I feel that they all fall under the umbrella of social commentary. I’ve really enjoyed producing this body of work and I hope that you enjoy it as well.” - Glenn Morgan, 2020 Glenn Morgan’s dioramas rendered in wood, metal, wire, screws and paint depict figures shouting text bites, road signs, animals, trucks and people; scenes alive with sound and movement. Stylistically quirky and cartoonish, this body of work offers a very personal insight into a year, conveyed with humour, whimsy and profound emotion.
