Purpose The study covered by this document presents alternative solutions named A, B and C for parking management on the parking premises of retail chain store Lidl ÄŒeskĂĄ republika v.o.s.. 1 INTRODUCTION This study represents a possible solution for the system of parking on parking premises belonging to individual stores of Lidl Czech Republic retail chain. Primary purpose of the parking management system is to provide free parking spaces and free of charge parking for store customers. Secondary, to charge parking time to drivers who use the parking spaces intended for store customers, but do not visit the store. Finally, this study solves such cases, when drivers leave their vehicles on the parking premises for an unreasonable amount of time, which does not correspond to the usual amount of time necessary for shopping. Option A: Represents a basic system of parking management at the stores. Every vehicle is allowed to enter the store car park and to stay there free of charge for the whole period given in operating rules, without conducting checks, whether the respective drivers visited the store or not. Option B: Includes a manual validation of parking tickets at the store cashier. Drivers parking in the car park present their entry tickets to the cashier who will perform the validation by placing a sticker with barcode either on entry tickets or receipts (thus validating parking for a duration given in the car park operating rules). Option C: Includes an automatic validation of parking tickets at the store cashier. The validation is performed automatically by placing the entry ticket into a data validator – validating parking for a duration given in the car park operating rules. All three options A, B and C allow exiting the car park without having to use an automatic pay station. If the time limit for a free parking is exceeded, drivers must pay the parking fee in the automatic pay station, which is installed outside the store in order to be accessible for payments after opening hours of the store.

2 CAR PARK ENTRY Well know daily difficulties with finding a free parking space in most of customer car parks at stores were something to think about a possible solution. AUTOGARD company comes with an effective solution that is useful for parking customers and brings along economical benefits for owners of parking.

Proposed solution is based on the installation of a parking management system with high-speed automatic barriers, which AUTOGARD company has been manufacturing and developing since 1993.

According to the proposed solution, the parking premises are equipped with high-speed automatic barriers in order to gain full control over the parking time. Entering the car park is allowed upon obtaining a valid entry ticket from a ticket dispenser, which will open the automatic barrier. Once the vehicle passes through the automatic barrier, the barrier will close again.

After leaving his vehicle in the car park, driver has a specific time period (freely adjustable by the car park operator) for parking free of charge. This period shall be set with correspondence to the usual amount of time necessary for shopping in the particular store and shall be stated in the car park operating rules. This procedure is identical for all the considered options of parking management systems A, B and C.

3 PARKING TICKET VALIDATION No parking ticket validation is performed under option A. This option is suitable for stores, which are located in such place, that parking for other reasons than shopping in the given store is not supposed. The main purpose of installed parking management system is to prevent long term parking or disposal of immobile vehicles.

Parking ticket validation for option B is performed using validation stickers. Customers paying at a cash desk will receive on their parking tickets a barcode validation sticker from the cashier. This procedure allows customers to park without charge for a time period given in the car park operating rules.

Store manager can pre-print the validation coupons on a standard laser printer using any regular sticker sheets for laser printers. Printing software for providing discounts is delivered together with the parking management system. In a similar way, it is possible to print coupons for long term parking, e.g. for store management or suppliers etc.

Validation under option C is also performed at the store cash desk. Ticket validators are installed at each cash desk. The validation is performed automatically by placing the entry ticket into a data validator. The information about validation is transmitted into the central parking management software and thus free parking for the duration given in the car park operating rules is provided. If necessary, additional ticket validator can be installed in manager’s office for providing longer free parking periods.

4 PAYMENT OF PARKING AFTER CLOSING HOURS After closing hours it is not possible to perform a validation of parking tickets at a cash desk. For such cases it is recommended to install an automatic pay station, which would be freely accessible after closing hours. Drivers can perform their payment for parking at any time, regardless of opening hours of the store. Automatic pay station provide the possibility of payment by coins and bank notes while refunding change in coins. Refunds in bank notes and payment card support are available upon request. Validation (free parking period) performed at a cash desk before closing hours is taken into account also by the automatic pay station. This procedure applies for options B and C.

5 EXITING THE CAR PARK Drivers are allowed to exit the car park after presenting an exit barcode to the reader in exit terminal. Upon the verification performed by exit terminal the exit barrier opens. Once the vehicle passes through the automatic barrier, the barrier will close again. This procedure applies for all options A, B and C.
