A piece of Norwegian industrial history From quayside loft to multi-million company

In the late 1950s, a radio repairer, an electronics engineer and two radar technicians created history in the technology capital of Norway; Trondheim. They were all entrepreneurs with a strong ambition to create something new together. The idea was simple: smart electronics, a wide product range and earnings that would reflect the development investment. Together, these technologists represented an ambitious management team and on 9 September 1957, Autronica A/S was a fact. Then they began. From their loft and office beside the Nidelva river, they began development of flashing lights, photocell switches, fire alarms, power supplies and temperature monitoring. A life's work and a totally Norwegian industrial adventure was about to begin, and these four developers also proved to hold the start of one of the world's most important technological revolutions. A technology that now ensures that millions of people all over the world are safe, every day. They developed the very first addressable fire alarm. We are proud to be a solid part of Norway's industrial history. The entrepreneurial spirit lives on and each day we try to go that little bit further in creating the safest and most reliable technology in the world.

Protecting life, environment and property After almost 60 years of development, we still supply the very latest in integrated fire and gas detection systems, extinguishing systems, emergency lights, and voice alarms onshore, in the maritime sector and in the oil and gas sector. Our mission is clear: to make the world a safer place to live in. We know how important this task is, and this drives us to constantly develop smarter solutions. Our pride and driving force are anchored in saving as many lives as possible, in protecting the environment and in securing property around us. In many cases, the consequences of a fire are enormous, and we have undertaken to understand how they occur, develop and can be fought. Our solutions must discover potential hazards in our surroundings as early as possible, without causing false alarms and uncertainty. This is a delicate balance, and our technology must be equally optimised in large cruise ships, in nuclear power stations and on oil platforms, as in kindergartens. A masterly exercise in which we place all our honour. And in this way, we create the safest and most reliable fire and gas safety products in the world.

To claim that we save the world is perhaps an exaggeration. But we undoubtedly help to make it a safer place to live in. Fire safety is becoming a steadily higher priority in large parts of the world. We make daily life safer for factory workers in Brazil, patients in hospital in the Netherlands, people sleeping in Spanish residential complexes and people buying their groceries in a shopping centre in Malaysia. Our products are flexible and can easily be adapted to suit conditions in different parts of the world.

There are many differences between a factory floor and a church spire, but for us these are two sides of the same coin. When unique cultural heritage sites need protection, one naturally turn to the best solutions on the market. The stave churches of Norway deserve to be made safe every day – in the same way as people in factories, pupils in the classroom or the world’s largest collection of seeds in Svalbard. Time after time, our inventions have revolutionised the market for fire safety, and today most people in Norway are never far from one of our products.
