Interior decorating trends, like other forms of fashion, are famous for changing as often as the seasons. There are, however, some decorating and design ideas with lasting appeal that can be as personal as you chose to make them. Here are a few to get you started....
• bring outdoor fabrics in! Pillows, couches and chairs covered with more durable fabrics not only stand the test of time, they come in a range of unique, eyecatching colours. Perfect for the home with a dog or a snackloving teen....
• as
technology increasingly fills our daily lives, many families are opting for a ‘techfree’ living room. A pretty bookstand, some cosy throws and a tray for tea can make this space welcoming
• if
a silent sanctuary is your goal but new insulation isn’t in the budget, try some rugs or strategically placed carpets to absorb footstep noise. If unwanted noise is seeping through

Well you have to be entertaining and bring in some people and hold the room of people that come in. Pretty simple really. Market yourself well. Sometimes via contests the Queens has found some new talent. Jona Kristinsson has definitely found some good singers through her ROCK IDOL.
Not only do these contests bring the community together for a fun event, but it brings in new people into the downtown that don’t normally check out live music.

PET TIP Spring Rains Bring... Spring is my favourite time of year. The sun has warmth, the rain is making things grow, people are out walking and enjoying the weather. Our dogs are out now more then any other time of year. It’s not “too hot”… it’s not “too rainy” … it’s not “too cold”. It’s “just right” dog walking weather. This season is also when we see our first bump of fleas (the other being the fall) so make sure

your guys are protected with flea medication. Fleas are around all year here...there is no real flea season...but we see a bump in the spring and fall when these little parasites seem to be especially prolific. It’s also the season we see ticks on Vancouver Island, and this year has been bad for them, check your guys daily for ticks. Especially if they are hanging out in long grass. Ticks like to hang out around ears, over the spine and over the shoulders. Check these areas thoroughly after being out in long grass. Puddles. Fun to jump in, fun to walk through, and a handy source of water when you’re out for a run. We will never be able to stop our dogs from getting feet first into those puddles and filling their bellies with puddle water. Puddles can be a great source for bacterial infections like Leptospirosis and Giardia. Leptospirosis is a deadly disease carried by the urine of raccoons. If these little bacteria stay wet, they can live in the environment for over a year. We have leptospirosis on the island and it’s carried by our local raccoons. If your guy is a puddle drinker, make sure he’s vaccinated against Leptospirosis. Giardia is the other bacteria we commonly see hang around in puddles. It causes diarrhea, and sometimes vomiting, that usually cycles from normal to watery. This parasite can be detected by a test at your veterinarian and responds well to medications. The test works best in the “diarrhea” phase of the cycle, but don’t wait to get your pet seen if they have cyclic diarrhea as this may be caused by another problem and your veterinarian will want to look into it.

Organize Your Closet... Ready, Set, Toss!
First remove anything from your closet that you can’t wear... pictures, a vacuum, yarn, etc. and find them new homes. Pull out all clothes that don’t work for the season... it will be overwhelming to deal with all your clothes at once but just get it done. Now group your clothes in “like” items. It will be easy to decide how many of your five black pants you need or which pair look tired. How many keepsake t-shirts do you really need to hold onto?
Enjoy a perfectly flat fit under tees!
Metal buckles and super-strong velvety elastic waist band No more gape-out around the waist or undie peekaboos Now come buy one at KC’s Boutique!
Try on remaining items. You can’t know how they fit when they’re on the hanger. Ask the following questions... • Is it a good fit? • Is it a good colour for me? • Can it be altered? • Is it a current style? • Is the item in good shape or showing its wear? • Can it be easily updated? • Get rid of negative energy from clothes you don’t love anymore THU APR 7 CONT... camaraderie, and a hefty dose of quirkiness. BIF NAKED is planning to
stop by Nanaimo in May with an
acoustic tour and
an autobiography just released.
Interview by Tina Coldwell
Q Tell us about your new book. A The book was my manager, Peter’s, idea. He encouraged and harrassed me into doing an autobiography. He made me write it all by myself and I was enmeshed in it since 2012. It is being published by Harper Collins and it is named “I, Bificus.” It is out on April 19th, 2016 but people can pre-order it. Here is a link to pre-ordering through Harper Collins: http://www.harpercollins.ca/searchresults?contributor=bif-naked Q What should your fans expect from the book? A My fans will expect my memoirs to be revealing, painfully honest, and utterly optimistic. Just like me! Q Is there anything surprising or shocking revealed in the book that you originally hesitated to include? What made you change your mind? A There are certainly a lot of surprises and never-before told stories in my memoirs. The stories might ruffle some feathers, but I am very much empowered having written my Truth. Q What made you decide to create an acoustic tour/ book reading tour to promote the book? What should fans expect? A I love playing acoustically and we all wanted to get the book tour underway...so it seemed very natural for me to combine the two things I love: singing and storytelling. Q Are you working on new music? A We are always working on new music and writing and recording our new songs. We
have one unreleased record, and one in the works. I love it! We are hoping to release a new album this year, and we may be trying new songs on tour, to see how they feel. It’s a great pre-production, too. Q What is the strangest thing that has ever happened to you while touring? A The strangest thing that ever happened to me while touring was that we had an individual follow the band around America with my face airbrush-painted on the hood of her Cadillac, among other things. She was extremely mysterious and elusive. We had many imagined ideas that she was a spy, a cop, or a superhero. Really intense interactions. Q Is there anything you particularly look forward to when touring on Vancouver Island? A We love the area and I have been playing gigs on Vancouver Island sing I was a wee lass in the early 90s!!! It feels very good to be there and I have many dear friends there. Can’t wait to see everyone! Q Back to the novel, will it be available for sale at the shows on this tour? Will fans have the opportunity to get it autographed? A We are hoping to bring treats and merchandise with us on this tour! I hope everyone will enjoy the show and the book!

Where’s My Wi-Fi? I get this question all the time. A client will call
and tell me their Wi-Fi connection to the internet is not working. Many times it will be just after they
have brought it home from our shop. When you are carrying your laptop around it is very easy to slide
the Wi-Fi switch on the front or side of your laptop to the off position by rubbing it with your hand. If
you find that your Wi-Fi has stopped try looking for a switch on the side or front of your laptop and
just turn it on. Sometimes there is a button on the top as well that just needs to be clicked on and
lastly there may also be a “F” key that will turn the Wi-Fi on and off mine is “F2”..just hold the
“FN” key and (In my case F2) at the same time and you can toggle the Wi-Fi on and off. There you
go…this might save you from tearing your hair out trying to get online.

Hosted by the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation Every year the Hospital Foundation partners with healthcare professionals to deliver information that is close to your heart and relevant to your life. Now in its 10th year, Learn for Life is delighted to offer a round of fascinating lectures that will make a difference in your life.

The latest Port Theatre Spotlight Series production, Going Home Star - Truth and Reconciliation, was commissioned by the Ballet’s Artistic Director André Lewis with production supported by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
It explores the world of a young, urban First Nations woman adrift in a life of youthful excess. But when she meets a long- haired trickster disguised as a homeless man, she’s propelled into a world she’s never seen. Together they travel the streets of this place as well as the roads of their ancestors, learning to accept the other’s burdens as the two walk through the past and toward the future. Together, both Annie and Gordon learn that without truth, there is no reconciliation. April 4 and 5, 7:30pm each night. Pre-show chat 6:30 pm in the Theatre. For Tickets: www.porttheatre.com

YOUR FITNESS NOW How to Fit Fitness into your Busy Lifestyle
We all know by now that maintaining an active lifestyle should be one of our top priorities in life. Only by taking care of ourselves do we stand a chance of being the kind of person we strive to be on the job, at home with our loved ones, and in our communities. But that doesn’t mean it’s easy. Are you trying to fit fitness it but just can’t seem to find time? Have your tried to start a fitness regime and quickly it took a back seat to all your other on the go activities? Trust me we can make anything work worth working for. I believe you are worth it! So here are some tips to making your daily healthy lifestyle habits solid. 1. Get up early or get up approx. 1 hour prior to you day to make room for you. Less road blocks can occur throughout your day. Once you are done nice and early you don’t have to think about it for the rest of your day. You are going to feel more energized and you are going to feel so good about yourself. You are going to be more productive. The best thing is you are going to feel so accomplished because you got it done. This will ensure your greatest success for getting it done. First few mornings might be tough but stick it out trust me they will get easier!
2. Pick 3 days a week to start working out or training. Write them in your schedule and don’t cancel on yourself. You are the most important person in your life. 3. Train from home. You don’t need to go anywhere to workout. You could even start with something as simple as 10 squats, 10 push ups (modifications), 10 lunges, abs, etc. There are tons of options on Youtube. I even have channel ErinCrawford that has tons free content and ideas.

It can also teach you the tools to be successful long term. You can check it out at www.bodytempo.com. If any questions just email me. 5. Start!
