ULTIMATE GUIDE TO PICCS FOR PATIENTS AND CAREGIVERS: AVA AND MIGHTY WELL COLLABORATE TO EMPOWER PATIENTS LIVING WITH PICCS

“So what exactly is a PICC, and how do I care for it?” - the Mighty Well team gets this question every single day from patients all across the world. Emily Levy, Mighty Well’s Co-Founder, also wondered the same thing.

In order to treat her neurological tick-borne illness, she required daily vascular access, including three different PICCs over the course of 18 months, followed by a port for another 3.5 years. Adapting to daily life with a medical device raised many questions and concerns for her and Mighty Well’s community members. With a social reach of over 600,000 users, Mighty Well has compiled the most common questions and concerns regarding vascular access with the goal of providing patients with the information they need.

In April 2022, Mighty Well partnered with the Association of Vascular Access to amplify its impact by producing the Ultimate Guide to PICCs for Patients and Caregivers and an accompanying eLearning video series. These patient-friendly resources explain medical terminology in easily digestible language and empower users to care for their PICC at home or on the go. Written by Mighty Well’s clinical nurse educator with input from their patient community -- and reviewed by the AVA -- the Ultimate Guide to PICCs can be shared digitally and in printed form, and it includes topics such as:

• What is a PICC: Who needs one?

• PICC placement: How to prepare • PICC Care: Complications to watch out for

These free resources provide caregivers and clinicians with the answers needed to empower patients and, ultimately, save lines! Discover the Ultimate Guide to PICCs for yourself and your patients here and the first episode of the eLearning video series below.
