Book Sharing in Avalon Expands Due to Popularity!

The Rotary Club of Avalon Park built Avalon’s first Little Free Library in Founders Square almost six years ago. Since that time, the book sharing has gained such positive feedback, the club has decided to install two more, with expansion plans down the road.

What is a Little Free Library? It is a not-for-profit organization that inspires a love of reading, builds community, and sparks creativity by fostering neighborhood book exchanges around the world. To date, there are more than 100,000 libraries in over 100 countries around the world with millions of books exchanged annually.

The Rotary Club of Avalon Park recognized the need of adding a book sharing area in hopes that families would benefit from reading and coming together as a community. “Literacy is a focus of Rotary International around the world,” stated Greg Meunier, President. “Our club in Avalon Park is supporting that mission by investing in the Little Free Library Program. We are excited to be expanding our reach in 2020!”

The library in Founders Square is used daily by young children, middle school and high school students, adults, and our senior community. The two additional libraries will be located near Encore and close to the pavilion on Tanja King Boulevard. Everyone is invited to participate whether that is by borrowing a book or adding a book. Participation is beneficial to all ages in the community.

Today, more than 30 million adults cannot read or write above a third-grade level. Books in the hands of children have a meaningful impact on improving literacy. The more books in or near the home, the more likely a child will learn and love to read. https://littlefreelibrary. org
