Pinecrest Academy Avalon Park Update

Pinecrest Academy Avalon K-5 is an elementary Charter school that opened in August 2018 welcoming their first class of students and has grown rapidly since then. Pinecrest currently operates with about 400 students in their K-5th grades.

Pinecrest Academy utilizes Project Lead the Way as their STEM curriculum. Project Lead the Way helps the students engage in the material hands-on, get inspired through learning and empowers them to solve real-world problems. Pinecrest also offers Spanish, Music and Art classes to their students in addition to the traditional classes. These additional classes allow their students to think outside of the box and retain more information at a young age.

What sets Pinecrest Academy apart from other schools is their brand. Pinecrest holds communication extremely high in their values. They strongly encourage the families of their students to volunteer at the school and play an active role in their child’s education. They send out weekly newsletters to families informing them of everything taking place that week. Pinecrest Academy takes pride in their Open-Door Policy and they appreciate all feedback from students and their families. In order to make their school a better place, they listen and act in their best efforts when a problem is brought to their attention.

Since COVID-19 had such an impact on in-person learning and the ways schools functioned normally, Pinecrest Academy had to adapt. Pinecrest added their “Classroom of the Future” which makes in-person and virtual learning possible at the same time. This new way of teaching allows the students that are in the classroom and the students at home to communicate and interact as they would if they were all together. Pinecrest is also now prepared for the return of more students transitioning from at-home learning to in-person learning. They are equipped with sanitizing protocols, masks, distancing measures and other safety procedures to ensure the health of their students, faculty and staff. Currently, Pinecrest is operating with only about 30% of their students back in the classroom, and they expect to see more students during the new year.

The faculty and staff at Pinecrest Academy have a huge heart for education and for each of the students enrolled in their school. While speaking to Principal Yasmeen Khan about Pinecrest Academy, she asked her three children (all of which attend Pinecrest in Kindergarten, 1st grade and 3rd grade) how they felt about their school, they all responded, “We love our school and our teachers!” Pinecrest is a jewel in the middle of Avalon Park, which is a family centered community that exemplifies the true values of a school like Pinecrest Academy.
