Update from Pasco County Commissioner

I hope you all have enjoyed a great start to the new year! As always, I’m honored to provide you updates on all that is happening in Pasco County. It has been an exciting start to the year for our area with more great things to come.

On January 25th, the Pasco Economic Development Council announced Amazon will build a new facility off of State Road 52 and Bellamy Brothers Road which will create 500 jobs and have some of the latest technology in

robotics available for sorting. This property was part of the Pasco Ready Sites program, which prepares and markets large areas of land for commercial purposes. These will be mostly high-quality jobs, with technicians and operators of robotic sorting systems.

In calendar year 2021, Pasco County issued almost 700 commercial permits, an increase of 20 percent over 2020. This is good news as it leads to more jobs for Pasco residents and the opportunity to live, work and play without leaving Pasco County.

In mid-January, I had the opportunity to visit Tallahassee to meet with legislators from all over the state about Pasco County’s priorities

and the impact of our tourism industry. In the picture with this column, I got to visit with State Representative Randy Maggard, who represents the Avalon Park area, and fellow County Commissioner Ron Oakley. Our Pasco legislative delegation does a great job representing our community and making sure projects to benefit Pasco County receive funding.

Our tourism efforts as Florida’s Sports Coast continue to pay off. In November 2021, our Tourist Development Tax collections, paid by visitors staying in short-term lodging, were up 68 percent from November 2020 and 42 percent from November 2019. I am proud to be chairman

of the Pasco Tourist Development Council.
