July Update from Pasco County Commission Chairman Mike Moore
June was another busy month throughout Pasco County, I greatly appreciate the opportunity to share these updates with you each month. I hope you are looking forward to an exciting Independence Day weekend to celebrate our great Nation’s founding with friends and family.
Vaccine rollout is continuing with all Floridians of age now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Please check out the Florida Department of Health in Pasco County’s website at pasco.floridahealth.gov for all the latest information.
A huge congratulations to the Pasco County Animal Services department. In the last few months, Animal Services has received over $75,000 in national grants to help with programs and operations. This is great national recognition for the amazing work that they do every day while saving our taxpayers money.
Did you know Pasco County is in the top 10 in the state in recycling rate? The Florida Department of Environmental Protection ranks each county, looking at both public and private recycling efforts. This is a great job by our community’s recycling efforts! Pasco ranked higher than several counties with much larger populations.
The first week of June brought a new event to our community, the Tampa Bay Pro Combine Presented by Florida’s Sports Coast. The combine brought over 40 NBA-draft eligible players from around the nation and a few from around the world to showcase their skills in front of professional basketball teams. The Combine brought hundreds of room nights and international media attention to Pasco County! I had the honor to participate in a ceremonial jump ball before the first game with Hasahn French (Saint Louis) and Micah Potter (Wisconsin). I’m excited to watch the Tampa Bay Pro Combine Presented by Florida’s Sports Coast grow in the future as a signature event!
Congratulations to our tourism Destination Management Organization, Experience Florida’s Sports Coast, for winning five Telly Awards! The Telly Awards is the premier honor for videos on all screens. Florida’s Sports Coast won for two videos, Sports Coast Strong and Game On. This is third year in a row our DMO has been recognized by the Telly Awards.
July sees the return of scallop season for Pasco County! Scalloping is a great family friendly activity to do outside! Pasco’s 2021 scallop season is July 16th through 25th.
I hope you enjoy a wonderful and safe Independence Day and July! Please check out Pasco County’s website at MyPasco.net for all the latest information. Remember, we will continue to get through this by working together!
