Update from Pasco County Commissioner Seth Weightman

I hope you had a wonderful month of June and are having a great start to summer! As we turn the calendar, the Fourth of July is one of my favorite days of the year to celebrate our great Nation’s founding. As always, I appreciate the opportunity to provide these updates to you about what is happening around Pasco County.

I have great news to share, our $1.5 million in state funding for sidewalks near schools was approved by Governor DeSantis. I am grateful to our Pasco legislative delegation, in particular Senator Danny Burgess and Representative Kevin Steele, for filing this request to help make the path to school safer for our kids. Senator Ed Hooper and Representative Randy Maggard also played important roles in getting this across the finish line. I am proud as a new Commissioner I was able to work with both the Legislature and the Pasco County School Board to get funding to benefit our community. Soon there will be new sidewalks on Cypress Creek Road near Denham Oaks Boulevard and on Parkway Boulevard benefitting Pine View Elementary and Pine View Middle. There is more to do, of course, but a huge thank you to everyone who worked hard to make sure our kids have safe paths to school.

On June 2nd, we kicked off the summer in a fun way with the ribbon cutting for the new Mirada lagoon in San Antonio. This is now the largest man-made lagoon in the United States and provides a great entertainment option. There were pirates and mermaids there to help us with the ribbon cutting.

On June 16th, the Dade City Chamber of Commerce held their Access East Pasco event. This is a great event bringing together people and communities from all over east Pasco to discuss everything that is happening. I was thrilled to be on a panel with state Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson, Senator Burgess, Representative Maggard, and many other municipal and economic officials from the community.

Looking ahead, July 11th will be an important County Commission meeting. That day, we have our first budget vote where we set the Truth in Millage rate for hearings later in September and another discussion on how to bring and keep quality value homes to Pasco County.

Thank you again for taking the time to read these updates. Remember, you can always catch up on the latest happenings on the Pasco County website at MyPasco.net. I hope you have a safe and wonderful Fourth of July!
