Update from Pasco County Commissioner

I hope you all had a wonderful month of April. It is amazing how quickly this year is moving as we enter May. We are fortunate to live in a community with so many exciting things happening, I appreciate you taking the time to read these updates every month.

In April, I spoke at the rededication ceremony for New River Library. Libraries are an important part of our community: they are a meeting space, they provide access to computers and the internet for many, along with programs, maker spaces, and the traditional books. When I was a kid, I’d ride my bike and spend hours in my local library. New River Library has a wonderful discovery garden program as well as an occasional ukulele jam session. Thank you to the citizens of Pasco County for supporting the renovation through the General Obligation bond program. Check out New River Library just down the street from Avalon Park Wesley Chapel at 34043 State Road 54.

On April 26th, I had the great honor of participating in a press conference for Hockey Heals 22 event. This event is 22 continuous hours of hockey to raise awareness for prevention of suicide among veterans. The event is a partnership between Tampa

Warriors Hockey Program and AdventHealth Center Ice. It is estimated 22 veterans a day die by suicide. One suicide a day is too many. We are here to support those who served our great Nation. Hockey Heals-22 will be June 10th and 11th at AdventHealth Center Ice in Wesley Chapel. Please come out to opening ceremony on June 10th at 6:30 p.m. or the closing ceremony on June 11th at 5 p.m.

More great news from Pasco County’s tourism office, Florida’s Sports Coast! In February of 2022, the amount collected from visitors staying in Pasco hotels was up 59 percent over February of 2021. This is a great testament to the work of the Florida’s Sports Coast team that brings events and visitors to Pasco to shop in our stores, eat in our restaurants, and stay in our hotels.

Please check out Pasco County’s website at MyPasco.net for all the latest information. I hope you and your family have a great May!
