Update from Pasco County Commissioner

I hope everyone had a great August and start to the school year for kids! As always, I greatly appreciate you taking the time to read about all the exciting things happening in Pasco County.

At the August 24th County Commission meeting, I had the honor to sponsor the resolution celebrating Pasco Hernando State College’s 50th anniversary. We were joined by PHSC Trustees Chairman John Mitten, President Timothy Beard, many administrators, faculty, students and PHSC Foundation Board members. Since it was founded, Pasco Hernando State College has graduated over 57,000 students. I am proud of the opportunities they provide to people in our community. Last year, the PHSC Foundation provided over $1.2 million in scholarships to students. We are fortunate to have such a great organization in our community.

In August, Pasco County was announced as the home of the Florida Senior Games for 2022, 2023 and 2024. The Florida Senior Games will have 22 sports across many venues in Pasco County and bring hundreds of athletes over age 50 to our community each year. These athletes and their families will stay in Pasco hotels, eat in Pasco restaurants, and spend money in Pasco stores. Thank you to the Florida Sports Foundation for working closely with our tourism office, Experience Florida’s Sports Coast, to bring these games to our community.

The Telly Awards honor excellence in video and television across all screens and it is an international competition. I am thrilled to share Florida’s Sports Coast was recognized this year with 4 Telly Awards. They won for a video partnership with Pasco Economic Development Council promoting our community for tourism and as a place to work. In one category, your Pasco team finished ahead of a promo for Spider Man:No Way Home movie. You can check out the winning video here or by searching for Pasco County: Meet, Live, Work, and Play on Florida’s Sports Coast! on YouTube.
