STRETCH PROGRAMME
In line with the school’s vision, the school’s Stretch Programme seeks to develop and nurture students who have shown potential to excel beyond academic achievements through skills acquisition, experiences and mentorship.
Students are given opportunities to learn important writing and presentation skills such as capturing the vibrancy of their secondary school life through journalism, keeping abreast of current world issues and future problem solving.
The lower secondary students went through a workshop on memory technique; they learnt how information is registered and how to apply what they have learnt in their various subjects. They also attended a session by Mr. John Miller, a Fullbright Scholar, on learning important skills through board games. The upper secondary students were also given the opportunity to attend the International Model United Nations Conference 2019 held in ACS (I). Students were also selected to compete in the Future Problem Solving Programme.
APPLIED LEARNING PROGRAMME (ALP)
In secondary 1, students go through a 15-hour ICT-based Game Design & Simulation programme. They learn to use Scratch codes to create animations and games. In secondary two, students learn to programme an mBot to complete assigned tasks in the 15-hour Robotics Programme. Equipped with coding skills, interested students participated in the annual schoolbased Robotics Challenge where they flexed their robotic muscles.
Our STEM Day continues to engage our students from secondary two with STEM related activities including school-based workshops and learning journeys to Urban Playspace, MAJ Aviation, Microgreen @ Ground-Up Initiative, and Leo Studio.
Micro:bit, a pocket-sized, code-able computer, has been introduced to the secondary two students as an extension of the Applied Learning Programme through the Humanities and Science subjects. In the science project, the micro:bit is turned into a thermometer through coding and is used to measure the temperature in an experiment involving radiation of heat.
