Around a table, the students and teachers sat riveted listening to story after story by our Guest Speaker, ‘barefoot doctor’ Dr. Tan Lai Yong. He regaled the rapt audience with tales of his life and work in Yunnan, and a session that was meant to last 45 minutes stretched easily to two hours, with everyone reluctant for it to end. This was the first time we had arranged for our invited guest at Achievement Day to interact with our staff and students after the ceremony and concert.

This was also the first year that we invited parents of awardees to join us in the preAchievement Day Honouring sessions. The parents were proud to witness their children going on stage to receive their prizes, and to share precious memories with the students and staff.

Apart from the parade, prize-giving ceremony, and concert, to celebrate the 55th year of AI, we were also treated to a special collaborative drone item by AI alumnus Sallihin Othman and students from the AfterSchool Engagement (ASE) programme. The finale was an AI family photo captured by the drone. Happy birthday, AI, and cheers to many more great years ahead!

AI receives a face-lift

Noticed some difference to our school grounds lately? Yes, our Indoor Sports Hall, gymnasium and lift are all finally ready for use after a year of construction in 2018. Despite the noise and disruption that the construction entailed, students and staff were nonetheless thrilled when the new facilities were unveiled. The Indoor Sports Hall and gymnasium will provide better venues and facilities for Physical Education (PE) lessons and Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) training sessions, while the lift will provide better access for individuals with various special needs to all four levels of the school.
