THAMIZHUM SUVAYIYUM TAMIL LANGUAGE COMPETITION
Do you know how to translate a recipe in English to Tamil, or solve riddles involving Indian Spices? Well, you do not have to look elsewhere! Our students, Heshwetha d/o Sivanandan (3E3) and Kalyaniambigai Magendran (3E4) did just that as part of a competition this year about the Tamil language and culture through everyday items found at home – food. As food is the ‘spice’ of life, the competition literally involved identifying spices used in everyday cooking. The students were challenged to translate recipes, solve spice-related riddles, and identify Indian spices from their given Tamil names. In another part of the competition, students had to pick out the correct spices from a given shopping list. Our students competed with 14 other schools in the competition organised by the ‘Valar Thamizh Iyakkam’ (Tamil Language Council) and clinched the Second Position! The school was awarded a trophy and the students each received a Kindle e-Reader.
