Student Council

2022 was indeed a year of change for the AES Student Council. This was the year where we resumed most of our activities and school events, much like the times before the COVID-19 pandemic started!

The Student Council started the year 2022 with the Secondary 1 Orientation. Although most of the activities were still classroom-based, there were more interactions between students in the same class because of the easing of safe distancing measures. The highlight of the event was the “bestowment” by the AssumptionKnight mascot in the school hall. That was the first time in two years that we had a levelbased assembly in the hall. The student councillors, not to say even the teachers, were excited! Through this orientation programme, the student councillors developed leadership and communication skills while helping the new Secondary 1 students adapt to the new school environment.

Another major milestone of the year was the handover of the Student Council Presidency where Toh Shu Yu Shena (3/3) was elected as the President for the year 2022/2023. Together with her new Student Council Executive Committee Team and the outgoing Executive Committee members (2021/2022), they planned a remarkable Student Leaders’ Investiture for all outgoing and incoming student leaders, including the CCA leaders. The theme ‘Uniting our Differences – Learn to Serve, Serve to Lead, Lead to Inspire’ was chosen to reflect the student leaders’ desire to unite their differences by having similar hopes and dreams.

“I really enjoyed my time as Student Council President, especially because I was working alongside my fellow EXCO members who made tough times lighter with their helpfulness and humour.” – Kaelin Ciara Duggan (2021/2022)

Semester 2 started with the Youth Day Celebration centred around the theme ‘ProTech YOUths’. In this new era where social media is everywhere, we strove to raise awareness of mental and cyber-wellness, and how AssumptionKnights can play a part in radiating positivity among youths. The celebration ended with a blast with a live churros station in the canteen!

Not forgetting Teachers’ Day, which was also the first time in a while that the whole school got to assemble in the school hall for the celebration! The student councillors started planning in July and after many many suggestions and improvements, they managed to put up a heart-warming celebration to show their appreciation for the teachers.

As the student councillors work behind the scenes in serving the school to create a vibrant and cohesive community, they become more compassionate and continue to inspire younger AssumptionKnights to come forth and serve the school.
