Basketball

The AES Basketball programme aims to develop basketball players with the necessary skills, from match strategies and teamwork to time management, in order to excel. We emphasise on character development –specifically focused on three key values:

Discipline – the drive and self-management needed for our students to achieve success

Focus – the ability to train in tandem with the WIN (What’s Important Now) mindset

Diligence – the concerted and consistent effort put into trainings, and strong values aligned with our school motto, Labor Omnia Vincit (Through Work Achieve Success)

We subscribe to the ethos of ‘Making Every Basket Count’ to inspire our players to turn every opportunity into an opportunity to shine. The team also follows the philosophy “When training is tough, competition will be easy.”

After two years of disruption to the National School Games, both our Boys and Girls Teams represented the school in the West Zone ‘B’ Division Basketball Championships in 2022. Both teams trained extremely hard during the school holidays and gave their best. We are proud of our ‘B’ Division Boys Team, who did consistently well and was awarded the Fair Play Award and 2nd position at the West Zone ‘B’ Division Boys Basketball Championship.

During the June school holidays, our ‘C’ Division Girls and Boys Teams also took part in the Whye Nam Tournament 2022. This competition provided both teams a good opportunity to play against other schools from other zones to gain valuable experience in preparation for their ‘C’ Division National School Games in June. With their consistent hard work and sweat, we are also extremely proud of our ‘C’ Division Girls who emerged 4th in the Whye Nam Tournament.

The ‘C’ Division Girls and Boys also took part in the West Zone ‘C’ Division Basketball Championships in 2022. Our Girls’ Team gained valuable experience playing against traditional powerhouses like Nanyang Girls’ High and Swiss Cottage Secondary School. The Boys’ Team emerged 2nd place in our grouping during the first round of games and made it to the 2nd round of the Championships. When playing against powerhouses like Hwa Chong Institution, Bukit Panjang High and Swiss Cottage Secondary School, our boys were able to hone their skills as they were pushed beyond their limits to put forth keen defenses. The students are glad to be given the opportunity to represent the school for the games and will continue training hard and smart to fight for a spot in the top 4 next year!
