Red Cross youth

“Seldom seen but ever present” – this remains the unofficial motto of the Red Cross Youth CCA as we continue to quietly serve the school and the community.

The past two years with the pandemic have been challenging for the CCA, with Home Based Learning and reduced group gathering sizes during CCA sessions, but we have managed to pull through. This is evident in our Gold Excellent Unit Award 2021 – Good job, Cadets!

This year was another good year for the unit with the addition of thirteen new cadets. This brings our contingent strength to 61 cadets – one of the largest CCAs. With the new cadets, we hope to continue to serve the school and the community diligently, but the true ethos of the CCA can be seen when we serve within the school – there is nothing more satisfying and humbling than serving your fellow schoolmate in a time of need. Here, the unit has been on active duty at every major school event such as Sports Day, soccer matches, and any other event organised by the school where injuries might potentially occur.

The trips, falls, cuts, abrasions, bruises are all tended to by us, yet we do not merely provide the first aid bandaging but the psychological support as well when Red Cross cadets put the injured at ease and make them comfortable as they are tended to – to tell them, “There is nothing to worry about, all will be well.” These are the things we want our cadets to learn: to serve freely, to show compassion, to be humble. All the qualities that make “men and women of character” – and this is what the Red Cross Youth CCA truly does.

There are many to thank for their service to the unit and school, such as Warrant Officer Harez Azizil Bin Ezhwan, the Chairperson of his unit, and we also congratulate our Warrant Officer Alfie Phang Jia Xuan for receiving the prestigious Red Cross Youth Director’s Award. We would like to wish our 21 outgoing Secondary 4 and 5 cadets all the possible best in the future. We aspire to live up to our Red Cross Youth motto, “Humanity in our hands.”
