The AES Concert Band believes in giving students the opportunity to learn, perform and showcase their music talent. It also allows them to experience a holistic education with special emphasis on the development of their character and leadership qualities.
AES Band had the opportunity to put up rousing performances during the school’s Mother Tongue Fortnight and National Day celebrations. AES Band was also involved in a VPA (Visual Performing Arts) collaboration with Choir, Dance and the English Language Drama and Debate Society- a production titled ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. Through this play, students were able to learn and model CHRIST values. This play also provided students the opportunity to develop their character and leadership qualities. In line with providing a holistic education for our students, the band members have a weekly sharing of their experiences in music and what has impacted them. For example, they shared their thoughts on the tempo changes in ‘The Four Seasons’ by Vivaldi and how the different musical instruments they play are also used in current pop music.
We also participated in the Singapore International Band Festival 2022 and achieved the Bronze Award. Now that restrictions have eased, we hope to participate in more external performances and leadership workshops providing much-needed exposure to our students. These platforms provide invaluable experiences for young musicians to explore the artistry of chamber music and showcase their talents in a more intimate setting! AES Band members look forward to improving their musical skills and performing more confidently in the year ahead!
Reflections from our graduating seniors, Class of 2022: NEO AN JUN (4/5) Over the years, I have learnt many values such as responsibility, patience and resilience through the help of the band itself, my seniors, instructors, teachers and friends. My band experience has truly been pleasant and I really enjoyed my four years of being in a band.
NUR RIDWAN BIN RAMLAN (4/3) Personally, I believe that band has given me the opportunity to hone my leadership skills as a Drum Major. I live by the phrase “One Band, One Sound” as being part of a band requires teamwork. I am thankful that I got to be a part of the AES Band.
